TV-Series
Description
Coco, a prince of the fallen Palmier Kingdom, escaped to the human world after his best friend Nuts was tricked into allowing the destructive Nightmare organization entry. Adopting the human alias Kokoda Koji—a name combining the linguistic pun "I am Coco" with characters meaning "well-being" and "history"—he searches for the Dream Collet and scattered Pinkies to restore his homeland and free its guardian, Nats. His alias enables him to teach at L'École des Cinq Lumières, positioning him to observe the Pretty Cure team closely.
Naturally, Coco appears as a beige, fox-like fairy with triangular ears, a salmon-red head tuft, fluffy neck fur, and a puffy tail, typically wearing a blue cape fastened by a crescent moon pin and the Palmier crown signifying his royalty. His human form is tall with short brown hair, dressed initially in a white shirt, blue trousers, and sneakers, later evolving into a dodger blue shirt and white jacket with longer sideburns. Transforming between forms consumes energy; physical impacts or exhaustion can revert him to fairy form, where he often ends sentences with "~coco".
Kind, protective, and occasionally stern, Coco trusts easily and risks his secret identity to help innocents. His human guise exudes calm wisdom, while his fairy form is more energetic. Dedication to protecting allies and restoring Palmier drives him, though he feels guilt over perceived failures, like Syrup's accusation of dishonesty after a failed quest. Key relationships shape his path: a strained but ultimately unbreakable bond with Nats, who initially distrusted him post-rescue; a friendship maintained with Princess Crepe after gently rejecting her romantic feelings stemming from a childhood misunderstanding; and a profound connection with Yumehara Nozomi. Their relationship evolves from mentorship and shared embarrassment over teasing to deep affection. He confesses his feelings in *Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo!*, sharing a pivotal kiss that breaks mind control. In *Kibou no Chikara ~Otona Pretty Cure '23~*, his duties as king limit communication with Nozomi, creating distance. He secretly checks on her, worries about her declining health from Cure Dream transformations, moves next door to her apartment, and proposes after her recovery from a coma. They marry, allowing him to balance Palmier Kingdom responsibilities—like aiding the Donuts Kingdom's water crisis—with their shared life.
Coco's abilities include transformation and, as king, summoning Cure Fleurets for the Pretty Cure team and harnessing the Palmier crown's energy. Temporarily brainwashed in a film, he displayed combat skills and energy projection. In a non-canon scenario, he humorously transforms into "Cure Coco" using Miracle Lights, wielding attacks styled after Cure Dream.
After restoring Palmier Kingdom, Coco rules full-time. His later life involves diplomatic efforts, such as negotiating resource aid for neighboring realms, while maintaining his marriage to Nozomi and offering ongoing support to the Pretty Cure team during crises.
