Shingo Shōji, a member of the Myogi NightKids, is notorious for his aggressive and dangerous driving tactics. He pilots a red Honda Civic SiR-II EG6 with a lightly tuned B16A engine producing 185PS. His strategy often involves deliberately nudging opponents' cars to force them into spins, especially when victory seems uncertain. He scorns standard downhill races, favoring matches with artificial handicaps like his own invention, the "duct tape deathmatch," where drivers have their dominant hand taped to the wheel. Despite his controversial methods, he ranks among the NightKids' most skilled drivers. He shares a childhood friendship with Sayuki, Impact Blue's navigator. Shingo first ambushes Koichiro Iketani of the Akina Speedstars, bumping Iketani's Nissan Silvia S13 to engineer a spin, provoking Takumi Fujiwara. In an anime-exclusive event, he later crashes Itsuki Takeuchi's Toyota AE85, hospitalizing Itsuki. Takumi accepts Shingo's challenge for revenge. Before their race, Iketani demands an apology; Shingo conditionally agrees only if defeated. During the duct tape deathmatch, Shingo gains an initial advantage due to the handicap favoring his front-wheel-drive Civic. When Takumi adapts by minimizing steering inputs, Shingo bumps the AE86 to retake the lead. An enraged Takumi drives recklessly to close the gap, ultimately overtaking using the gutter technique. In the final moments, Shingo attempts to force a double crash by ramming Takumi, but Takumi evades, causing Shingo to hit a guardrail and lose. After the crash, Iketani and Kenji offer assistance and transport to the hospital, where Shingo acknowledges defeat. Shingo maintains a competitive dynamic with NightKids leader Takeshi Nakazato, sharing similar racing philosophies but keeping distance at public events to avoid appearing affiliated. He demonstrates loyalty by supporting Nakazato during the Emperor Team's challenge, particularly in Nakazato's race against Seiji Iwaki. During the Emperor Arc, Shingo and Nakazato spectate Ryosuke Takahashi's battle against Kyoichi Sudo while deliberately avoiding proximity to conceal their friendship. In later arcs, including the Kanagawa Expedition, both appear as spectators during Project D's final race against Sidewinder. Shingo also observes Takumi's Akagi rematch against Ryosuke Takahashi, commenting on their techniques.
