Description
Torippii Sorano, known as Flappie in English adaptations, is a pastel green parrot. He features distinctive red, yellow, and cyan feathers at his occiput and lower back, a yellow beak, and orange talons. A red bow with a thin white stripe always adorns his neck. His clothing evolved throughout the series. Initially, he wore a dark blue vest and sometimes a tan hat with a blue band during summer. By episode 78 of *Hakken*, his outfit changed to a yellow shirt paired with a purple jacket with white straps and lighter pockets; summer variations included a white shirt with pale pink, yellow, and baby blue stripes and an orange cap. In the *Wow!* series, he sports a dark blue shirt with white stripes and grey pants, switching to a white shirt with blue stripes and dark blue pants for summer, occasionally accessorized with a white sailor cap or orange cap.
He lives with his parents, his feisty grandmother, and is the eldest of four siblings, giving him the largest family among the main characters. Torippii attends Challenge Kindergarten alongside friends like Shimajiro Shimano, whom he considers his most important friend, consistently showing him support and friendliness. He also maintains close bonds with Mimirin Midorihara, Ramurin Makiba, and Nyakkii Momoyama. Torippii's personality radiates whimsy and quirkiness, marked by a talkative, goofball nature. He tends to chatter and becomes indecisive in critical moments, compounded by a poor sense of direction. Despite aspirations to be a singer and a love for singing, he remains notably tone-deaf. He can fly like a real bird and understand non-anthropomorphic birds. His interests include airplanes, stylish appearances, and takoyaki, his favorite food. He dislikes bell peppers and quiet environments, harboring a pronounced fear of ghosts and ghost stories.
Torippii appears consistently across the franchise's television series: *Shima Shima Tora no Shimajirō*, *Hakken Taiken Daisuki! Shimajirō*, *Shimajirō Hesoka*, and *Shimajirō: A World of Wow!*. His film appearances include *Shimajirō to Fufu no Daibōken: Sukue! Nanairo no Hana* (2013), *Shimajirō to Kujira no Uta* (2014), *Shimajirō to Ōkina Ki* (2015), and *Shimajirō to Ehon no Kuni* (2016). In *Shimajirō to Ururu no Hero Land* (2019), he joins the adventure to save Heroland—a realm invented by Ururu where heroes meet—from a robot threat, traveling via the Dokodemo Sidecar to seek aid from Gaogao-San.
The name "Sorano" (空野) combines "sora" (sky) and "no" (field), while "Torippii" (とりっぴい) derives from "tori" (bird) and "pi" (mimicking a bird's chirp). His birthday is January 1 at 7:00 AM, coinciding with New Year's Day and shared with the character Monta. His blood type is O.
