Description
Ran Mōri is the central female character of the Detective Conan anime and appears in its special productions, including the anime special Detective Conan Magic File 2. She is a sixteen-year-old high school student in Class 2-B at Teitan High School, where she serves as captain of the school's karate club. She is the daughter of Kogorō Mōri, a private detective who operates the Mōri Detective Agency, and Eri Kisaki, a successful lawyer. Ran's parents separated when she was seven years old, and she has lived with her father ever since. One of her strongest personal motivations is reuniting her parents, although their mutual stubbornness makes her efforts difficult and mostly unsuccessful.
Ran is the childhood friend and romantic interest of Shinichi Kudō, a brilliant high school detective. After Shinichi is forced to disappear and secretly takes on the identity of a small child named Conan Edogawa, Ran agrees to care for him as a distant relative and soon treats him like a younger brother, unaware that he is actually Shinichi. This situation defines much of her role in the story. She looks after Conan, protects him from harm, and often confides in him about her feelings for Shinichi, while he quietly watches over her from an unrecognizable form. Ran has come close to discovering Conan's true identity on several occasions, but each time the secret has been preserved.
