Description
Kogoro Mouri is the private detective who runs the Mouri Detective Agency in Beika Town and is the father of Ran Mouri. In the OVA Detective Conan: The Stranger From 10 Years Later, he appears in a glimpse of a possible future where ten years have passed while Conan Edogawa remains trapped in his shrunken form. His background includes prior service as a police detective in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, where he worked under Inspector Megure, before leaving the force under circumstances connected to a hostage incident involving his wife. He later opened his own agency and reluctantly took in Conan, who uses a tranquilizer and voice changer to solve cases through Kogoro, earning him the public reputation of Sleeping Kogoro despite his actual mediocrity as an investigator. In the ten-year-later timeline depicted in this OVA, Kogoro is shown still living in the same office above Cafe Poirot, unchanged in demeanor and habits. He is seen musing about the retirement of pop idol Yoko Okino, reflecting his persistent infatuation with her that has not diminished over the decade. His personality remains characterized by laziness, boastfulness, and a tendency to prioritize leisure and alcohol over work. He continues to smoke heavily and exhibits the same overinflated sense of his own detective prowess. His motivations center on maintaining his comfortable lifestyle, though he retains a genuine, if understated, concern for his daughter Rans well-being. In this future, he is present when Sonoko Suzuki reveals that Ran is considering a marriage proposal from Tomoaki Araide, a plot point that drives Conans desperate search for Ran. Kogoros key relationships in this story include his ongoing estrangement from his wife Eri Kisaki, with no indication of reconciliation after ten years; his unchanged dynamic with Ran, for whom he still serves as a guardian; and his continued obliviousness to Conans true identity and the role Conan has played in his fame. His notable abilities remain his physical skills, particularly his expertise in judo and his marksmanship from his police days, though his investigative talents are still overshadowed by his reliance on Conans hidden assistance. The OVA depicts Kogoro as static in his development, serving as a familiar anchor in a future where other characters have visibly aged and changed, highlighting that his fundamental nature resists growth or self-reflection even over a decade.
