Koalanyan is a Rank A Rare Yo-kai of the Charming tribe. His appearance blends koala-like traits with feline features, featuring blue fur that matches the spiral pattern on his stomach, a dark green nose, an aquamarine wisp-shaped tail, and a collar adorned with a greenish-blue sphere. This visual design remains consistent across all appearances. He began life as a stuffed doll belonging to Kanami Minami. His transformation into a living Yo-kai occurred when Kanami, hospitalized after a career-ending accident, encountered a mystical flying whale. This event imbued the doll with supernatural abilities derived from the whale's reality-altering power. Koalanyan debuted centrally in the third Yo-kai Watch film, playing a key role in merging animated and live-action worlds. His primary ability transports beings between animated and live-action dimensions, activated by pressing his nose. This action causes his eyes to change color and triggers a brief dance before reality shifts. In his film debut, this power connects directly to the flying whale, whose rainbow-hued sound waves first transform Sakura New Town; later, booping his nose enables controlled transitions. An alternate ability activates when his ears are pulled, compelling others to dance. He communicates solely through phrases like "puku puku" and his name, though the Yo-kai Directator interprets his speech. Koalanyan also exhibits hydrophobia, actively avoiding water. In gameplay, Koalanyan possesses distinct mechanics. His "Dramatize" Inspirit boosts ally stats by "messing with reality." His Soultimate Move, "Two World Beam," damages enemies with a dimension-altering beam. The "Switcheroo" skill swaps enemy Strength and Defense stats upon taking damage. He appears in multiple titles, including mandatory recruitment in *Yo-kai Watch Busters 2* to unlock Whyvern King and as an SS-rank Yo-kai in *Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble*. His name fuses "koala" with "nyan" (meow). Design inspiration originated from creator Akihiro Hino's concept of a real-world plush gaining life in an animated realm; a koala was selected due to the scarcity of unused animal candidates. His reality-warping abilities reference the hybrid live-action/anime format of his debut film.
