Description
Wolfgang Mittermeyer, born August 30, 768 UC to a middle-class professional family, joined the Imperial military academy seeking advancement. In 785 UC, his family took in Evangelin, an orphaned distant relative from his mother's side; their relationship matured, culminating in her accepting his marriage proposal in 792 UC.
His enduring friendship with Oskar von Reuenthal began during a 789 UC bar altercation where both defended an enlisted rating against Military Policemen. Rising rapidly despite his common birth, Mittermeyer achieved admiral rank in his twenties. His strong moral principles led him to execute a noble-born soldier for murdering a civilian during a robbery, resulting in imprisonment and noble death threats. Reuenthal secured his release through Reinhard von Lohengramm, and both pledged loyalty to Reinhard.
By 794 UC, Mittermeyer served as a captain at the Ministry of War on Odin alongside Reuenthal. They observed Reinhard's rise and commanded squadrons during the Sixth Battle of Iserlohn, their coordination preventing a total Imperial rout. During the Alliance invasion, Mittermeyer attacked the Alliance's overextended 9th Fleet in the Alviss Starzone, inflicting significant losses through rapid assault tactics that earned him the moniker "Gale Wolf." He later participated in mopping up Alliance forces at the Battle of Amritsar.
In the 797 UC Imperial Civil War, Mittermeyer defeated his former instructor Admiral Staaden at the Battle of Altena by using a minefield to divide enemy forces. He then collaborated with Reuenthal to capture Rentenburg Fortress, outmaneuvering Commander Ovlesser, contributing to the Lippstadt League's defeat. Post-war, they supported Reinhard's consolidation of power, including the coup against acting premier Klaus von Lichtenlade, both being promoted to high admiral.
After Reinhard's coronation as Kaiser, Mittermeyer attained fleet admiral rank and became Chief Commander of the Fleet. When Reuenthal later rebelled, Mittermeyer appealed to Reinhard to let Reuenthal explain, offering his own resignation if Reinhard temporarily removed certain officials as a gesture. When this failed and Mittermeyer resolved to act against those officials, he was prevented. He then led Imperial forces against Reuenthal, ending the rebellion. Following Reuenthal's death, Mittermeyer adopted his son, Felix.
Mittermeyer commanded Imperial forces through most of the Battle of Shiva after Reinhard fell ill. He became the last surviving member of Reinhard's original inner circle after the deaths of Siegfried Kircheis, Reuenthal, and Paul von Oberstein. Unable to conceive children, Mittermeyer and his wife adopted Felix.
