Description
Siegfried Kircheis was born on January 14, 467 Imperial Calendar (776 Universal Calendar) to middle-class parents. An only child, he lived in a quiet neighborhood until the von Müsel family moved in next door. He swiftly befriended young Reinhard von Müsel and his sister Annerose. Throughout their childhood, Kircheis cherished Annerose and shared Reinhard's profound devastation when she was taken as the Kaiser's concubine. This event forged his unshakable lifelong loyalty to Reinhard, with whom he made a pact to gain sufficient power to free Annerose, committing to future treason against the Goldenbaum Dynasty.

Kircheis followed Reinhard to the Imperial Academy, selecting a military career as the fastest path to power for commoners and low nobles. They entered active service at age 15, rising rapidly through the ranks due to exceptional performance. Kircheis became known as Reinhard's "shadow," perceived by Reinhard as an extension of himself. Although others viewed him as Reinhard's subordinate, Kircheis demonstrated independent military competence during the Castrop Rebellion and the Free Planets Alliance's invasion of the Empire.

During the Alliance invasion, Kircheis targeted supply fleets, forcing Alliance forces to forage and igniting revolts among Imperial civilians. At the Battle of Amritsar, he deployed directional seffle particle generators to breach minefields, enabling an Imperial victory that earned him promotion to High Admiral. In the Imperial Civil War, commanding 40,000 ships against Marquis Littenheim's 50,000, he used tactical precision to sow chaos in enemy formations and captured Garmisch Fortress with minimal casualties, eliminating the Lippstadt League presence in frontier systems.

Kircheis maintained a strong moral compass, clashing with the underhanded methods employed by Paul von Oberstein. Tensions escalated when he learned of Reinhard's indirect involvement in the Westerland Massacre through Oberstein's manipulated intelligence. During a confrontation at Geiersburg Fortress, Kircheis argued that sacrificing lives for political gain was unacceptable. He temporarily relented only after Reinhard asserted authority, trusting his friend's inherent goodness would prevail.

Kircheis died on September 9, 488 IC (797 UC) during the Imperial Civil War's conclusion. When Commodore Ansbach attempted to assassinate Reinhard using a rocket launcher concealed in Duke Braunschweig's corpse, Kircheis lunged at Ansbach, deflecting the shot. During the struggle, Ansbach shot him twice with a particle-beam ring—first through the chest, then mortally through the neck. Despite his wounds, Kircheis maintained a grip that broke Ansbach's arm. With his final words, he asked Reinhard to inform Annerose he had kept his promise and urged Reinhard to conquer the universe.

Posthumously promoted to Fleet Admiral, Kircheis was buried in Odin's Central Imperial Graveyard with "Mein Freund" inscribed on his tombstone. His death profoundly impacted Reinhard, who preserved a lock of Kircheis' hair in a locket and frequently reflected on his counsel. Imperial admirals like Mittermeyer and Reuenthal, along with Alliance admiral Yang Wen-li, acknowledged that Kircheis' presence could have facilitated peaceful coexistence between the Empire and Alliance. His legacy endured as a stabilizing influence Reinhard could never replace.

Beyond main series events, Kircheis appeared in Gaiden episodes depicting earlier career incidents. In one investigation, he exposed corruption involving thyoxin trafficking while protecting retired Vice Admiral Christoph von Basel at the request of Michael von Keyserling, demonstrating his commitment to justice beyond battlefield contexts.
