Description
Born in 726 UC (3526 CE), Alexander Bucock enlisted in the Free Planets Alliance military, rising solely through merit without formal academy training. This path drew occasional disdain from academy officers but secured his reputation as a seasoned commander across the Alliance-Imperial conflict. At nineteen during the Second Battle of Tiamat in 745 UC (3545 CE), he served as a gunner aboard the 5th Fleet’s battleship *Shah Abbas* under Bruce Ashbey, maintaining composure after his turret’s ammunition depletion and urging a panicking crewmate to focus on controllable duties.

By 788 UC (3588 CE), he commanded the Marovia Starzone as a commodore and published memoirs. Advancing to rear admiral then vice admiral over six years, he led one of the Alliance’s twelve combat fleets by 794 UC (3594 CE), ultimately taking the 5th Fleet. As senior admiral during the Third Battle of Tiamat in 795 UC (3595 CE), he coordinated the 5th, 10th, and 11th Fleets against an Imperial incursion. He clashed with Vice Admiral Willem Holland’s insubordinate tactics, which nearly destroyed the 11th Fleet, before covering Holland’s retreat with Ulanhu and blocking Imperial pursuit.

In 796 UC (3596 CE), Bucock joined the Alliance’s Imperial invasion after Iserlohn Fortress’s capture. Heeding Yang Wen-li’s supply-line warnings, he withdrew the 5th Fleet from Bilrost starzone when engaged by Oskar von Reuenthal’s forces, disengaging successfully despite nearly 30% losses.

During the Imperial counterinvasion via the Fezzan Corridor in 799 UC (3599 CE), Fleet Admiral Bucock commanded Alliance forces at the Battle of Rantemario. Outnumbered, he leveraged a star’s gravity well to inflict heavy damage on Imperial fleets—notably Wolfgang Mittermeyer’s and Fritz Josef Bittenfeld’s squadrons—but suffered catastrophic casualties. Defeated, he attempted suicide to atone for losses; aide Chung Wu-Cheng intervened, disarming him and convincing him his death would expose subordinates to Imperial war crimes trials.

After the Alliance surrendered on 5 May 799 UC (3599 CE), Bucock advocated continued resistance during Imperial negotiations for Heinessen. He argued a symbolic last stand could buy time for Yang Wen-li to defeat Reinhard von Lohengramm, declaring the Alliance "should die as a democracy rather than become a dictatorship to survive." When Chairman Job Trunicht dismissed this, Bucock threatened assassination to prevent surrender but was arrested by Trunicht’s Terraist Church soldiers.

Permitted retirement after Yang’s intervention with Reinhard, Bucock stayed under Imperial surveillance as a potential anti-Imperial figure. Recalled forcibly during the Empire’s final invasion, he led a last defense at the Battle of Marr-Adetta Starzone. Inflicting 25,000 Imperial casualties, he died in combat after toasting democracy with Reinhard via communication. Reinhard later ordered a full imperial salute and poured a libation in his honor upon reaching Heinessen.
