Description
Ryo Magami is an artificial human known as an Erbsünde, one of countless identical clones created as replacements for an original individual matching his appearance. He escaped his creators after killing his genetic progenitor, though the specific circumstances remain unclear. Recruited into the Skull Force military organization, he pilots the Kaiser robot alongside Ken Kaido in the Death Caprice Squad under the codename "Lucifer 4." His unique constitution and willpower make him exceptionally suited to piloting the Kaiser.
Physically, Ryo bears a striking resemblance to Duke Fleed, the pilot of Grendizer, but possesses black hair, black eyes, and a paler complexion. He typically wears the standard Skull Force uniform with dual gun holsters, sometimes adding a gray overcoat. Alternate depictions, like manga, show him in a lab coat over pants and dark shoes.
Ryo projects a cool, nihilistic exterior but exhibits intense excitement during combat, especially while piloting the Kaiser, as it makes him feel alive. He favors direct confrontation over negotiation and shows minimal fear of death. However, he harbors deep-seated hatred for his artificial origins, reacting with fierce anger when confronted about it, which often creates tactical vulnerabilities. Ken Kaido serves as his primary emotional anchor, capable of calming these outbursts.
In combat, Ryo wields paired pistols in a unique hybrid style, utilizing them for both melee strikes and highly accurate ranged fire. As a pilot, he operates the Skull Pilder stealthily when Kaido is unavailable. While controlling the Kaiser, he frequently employs the Breast Triggers attack system and integrates his gun techniques into the robot's maneuvers, often calling out the names of its ranged attacks.
His missions with the Death Caprice Squad involve combating rogue robots, giant monsters, and forces led by the scientist Faust. During an operation on Machine Island, after their transport is destroyed, he and Kaido fight alongside a girl against enemies including Kiba and Garan's armies. When Garan and Himiko expose his cloned nature, Ryo becomes enraged and attacks recklessly until Kaido forcibly restrains him. Falling into a ditch, he encounters a phantom of his past self urging him forward. The squad ultimately defeats Garan, though Kiba later resurfaces piloting the Iron Kaiser, leading to its destruction alongside the Gravity Curtain.
In subsequent conflicts with Faust's group, Ryo encounters one of his own clones working with the scientist. After this clone betrays Faust and deploys a robot rivaling the Kaiser's power, Ryo accepts his past while resolving to destroy the clone and its machine, signaling his forward progression.
The name "Ryo" references distance, reflecting his personality and firearm preference. "Magami" can be interpreted as "Demon God" in Japanese. His codename "Lucifer" draws inspiration from the biblical figure and the character Ryo Asuka from *Devilman*, who served as Satan's human guise. His gun-focused combat style shares similarities with the fictional Gun Kata martial art.
