TV-Series
Description
Meili, daughter of Yang Spring Restaurant's head chef Chouyu, starts as a helper there. She facilitates Liu Mao Xing's entry into the restaurant after his failed cooking test by providing crucial knowledge about Guangzhou's water quality, becoming instrumental in his early development.
Her personality blends sweetness with seriousness. She cares deeply for Mao's growth but displays impatience, especially towards Shirou. Strong romantic feelings for Mao make her view his cooking passion as her rival for his affection; jealousy flares when other women like his sister Karin or chef Anzu interact with him.
Driven by love for Mao and his ideals, Meili insists on joining his quest for the Legendary Cooking Utensils. Their relationship deepens during travels. Mao gifts her a pendant necklace after his Southwest China trip and later crafts peach-shaped dim sum for her birthday, expressing his affection through food.
Her loyalty faces a test when Dark Cooking Society member Zhuqi seduces her to undermine Mao. Succumbing to this trap, she turns cold towards Mao and recklessly volunteers as judge for their duel. After Mao's victory, she apologizes, reconciles, and sews new clothes for him to mend their bond.
Though not formally trained, Meili demonstrates culinary growth during Chengdu's Mapo Tofu competition. She personally prepares the dish to aid Mirei, earning Mao's newfound respect for her abilities and dedication, stepping out of her purely supportive role.
Mao ultimately selects Meili as his assistant for the final Great Wall cooking battle, affirming both her developed skills and his romantic feelings. This signifies her journey from infatuated helper to trusted culinary partner.
Her background notes she is the spitting image of her deceased mother, Meika, and shares name and appearance similarities with Touhou Project's Hong Meiling. The pendant from Mao remains a consistent symbol of his affection throughout her story.
