Description
Ellis, a Japanese woman raised in Turkey, survived a childhood car accident that killed her mother and brother. Presumed orphaned, she grew up in a Turkish orphanage before joining a traveling circus as a dancer at 16. She wields paired dirks with high agility, employing acrobatic movements, aerial repositioning, and swift close-range strikes. Her signature techniques include aerial assaults like Homing Swallow and Arc Slash, multi-hit attacks such as Angel Kiss (Kiss Kiss Kiss) and Sweet Kiss (Aftershock/French Kiss), and evasive maneuvers like Sickle Dance.
She first entered the Battle Arena Toshinden tournament seeking answers about her family. Initially believing her father dead, she discovered post-tournament that Gaia, the event's sponsor, was her surviving father. He had hidden his identity to shield her from the Secret Society, the criminal group targeting him that orchestrated the fatal crash. Though resentful of his deception, she reconciled with him upon learning the truth. A year later, Gaia summoned her against the Secret Society. Entering a second tournament, she reunited with him but was defeated by Fo Fai, preventing her participation in the final clash. After Uranus's defeat, she and Gaia attempted to rebuild their relationship.
Both became targets again when the Society's successor, the Soshiki, marked them as blood sacrifices. The Soshiki also kidnapped children from her circus troupe to compel her cooperation. She joined a third tournament alongside allies to rescue the children, confronting the Soshiki assassin Atahua. Their duel ended inconclusively when Atahua's companion forfeited against Gaia. Successfully freeing the children, she and Gaia retired from combat after the Soshiki's destruction.
Her journey evolved from a personal quest for truth to embracing a protective role. Responsibility for the circus children fostered her maturity, shaping her into a capable fighter and compassionate individual. She concludes her story celebrating peace through dance, surrounded by the rescued children and allies.
Physically, Ellis stands 160 cm tall with green hair and eyes. She typically wears a pink dress featuring transparent sleeves and a large bow, paired with ballerina-style shoes. Her personality is consistently cheerful, kind-hearted, and resilient, displaying fierce protectiveness towards children.
Her character draws inspiration from Western figures like Tinker Bell, Heidi, and Shirley Temple, reflecting orphanhood and new beginnings tied to her Ellis Island-associated name. Early concepts envisioned a more adult or tsundere personality, later softened into her finalized genki girl archetype.
