Description
Kōsaku Higashida, a 40-year-old Japanese man with an easygoing disposition, balances corny humor and teasing banter with his family. His past business bankruptcy triggered financial struggles, driving his son Daisuke to take on part-time work despite Kōsaku’s relaxed attitude. The family habitually confronts hardships, including his unemployment, with laughter—a response that unsettles Daisuke, fueling his reluctance to stay home. Married to Sachiko and father to high schooler Daisuke and Sakiko, Kōsaku’s playful antics persistently clash with his son’s pragmatic demeanor, emphasizing their generational friction. Sporting brown hair and glasses typical of middle-aged character designs, his name—Kōsaku (“cultivation”) and Higashida (“east field”)—hints subtly at themes of rooted, ordinary life. His unchanging role centers on shaping Daisuke’s experiences rather than evolving personally.
