Description
Cream Panda is a young superhero who plays a central role in the 2010 film Soreike! Anpanman: Hashire! Waku Waku Anpanman Grand Prix. In this story, the Anpanman Grand Prix is a major race across land, air, and sea that takes place throughout the Anpanman World. Cream Panda builds a special car to compete in the event. However, his preparations are derailed when a grumpy young girl from Flower Land named Maggie causes an accident that severely damages his race vehicle. Rather than staying angry, Cream Panda works together with Maggie to repair the car. After they fix the damage, Maggie becomes Cream Panda’s partner for the remainder of the race, demonstrating his ability to move past an initial conflict and collaborate with someone new.
In the broader context of the Anpanman franchise, Cream Panda is the youngest core member of Anpanman’s team of superhero allies. Chronologically six years old, he is noticeably younger and less physically powerful than heroes such as Anpanman himself, Currypanman, or Shokupanman. His head consists of a cream-filled bun, a type of pastry, with dark circular markings around his eyes that resemble a panda’s face. Despite this panda-like appearance, he does not like being called a panda. He wears a pale costume featuring the letter C, which stands for his name.
Cream Panda did not originate from Uncle Jam’s bakery like most other bread-headed heroes. Instead, he came from a place called Custard Land and was later adopted into the household of Melonpanna and Rollpanna, becoming their foster little brother. This places him within the central heroic family of the series.
In terms of personality, Cream Panda displays a strong blend of youthful bravery and a desire to do good. He is courageous and has a protective instinct toward his friends, which is fueled by a persistent never give up attitude. He greatly admires Anpanman, who serves as his primary role model and mentor, often teaching him about strength and what it truly means to be a hero. At the same time, Cream Panda’s immaturity sometimes leads him into petty squabbles or competitive rivalries with other young characters. He can also be somewhat prideful, occasionally denying that he needs help or that he has been crying.
Cream Panda’s most notable ability is called the Guu-Choki-Punch. This is a forceful headbutt attack named after the Japanese words for rock, scissors, and paper, referencing the unique hand-like shape of his cream bun head. While the attack has the potential to be powerful when it actually connects with a target, it more often than not fails to hit, either because of its predictable winding motion or because of Cream Panda’s own overeagerness in battle. This reflects his ongoing development as a young hero who is still learning and growing. His role in the Grand Prix film, where he must overcome an accident, work with a reluctant partner, and finish a difficult race, serves as a clear example of his perseverance and his willingness to cooperate with others to achieve a goal.
