Description
Batako-san works as Uncle Jam's assistant in his bakery. Her Japanese name means "Butter Girl." She was present alongside Uncle Jam at Anpanman's birth and later helped raise him, becoming a motherly figure within their family.

She possesses rosy cheeks, black eyes, and a small round button nose. Her spiky black hair appears shorter in later series iterations. Batako-san typically wears blue overalls over a white vest and a chef's hat that hides her bangs; without the hat, her hair reveals a bowl cut.

Her duties involve baking bread and sweets with Uncle Jam, cleaning the bakery, delivering goods, and handling laundry. She wields notable sewing skills, frequently mending or creating the flying capes for Anpanman and other heroes, and crafting other items like dresses when required. Batako-san also plays a direct role in Anpanman's well-being, facilitating the replacement of his damaged head with a new one baked by Uncle Jam.

Batako-san exhibits a kind, caring, and polite nature, rarely arguing. She maintains a bright, optimistic outlook and shows dedication through constant hard work across bakery and support tasks.

Key relationships define her role:
- With Anpanman, she shares a deeply familial, nurturing bond rooted in his creation and upbringing.
- With Uncle Jam, she demonstrates profound loyalty and care as his primary bakery assistant, though their specific past connection remains unstated.
- With Cheese the dog, she shares a close bond, having named him and advocated for keeping him; she often interprets his barking and partners with him on deliveries.
- With Shokupanman and Currypanman, she maintains friendly but less explored connections.
An early concept depicted her discovered as an infant in the woods by a young Anpanman, but this backstory was discarded to establish her as older than Anpanman. Despite her human appearance, the series establishes few humans exist in Anpanman's world.

Batako-san appears consistently across franchise media, including the film *Soreike! Anpanman: Mija to Mahō no Lamp*, fulfilling her standard supportive role. Her character emphasizes reliability through ongoing bakery operations, cape maintenance, and assistance during Anpanman's recoveries.
