Having witnessed Anpanman's birth in the first episode, Batako-san, alongside Uncle Jam, helped raise him, acting as a motherly figure within their family. She shares a particularly close bond with Cheese the dog: she named him, advocated to keep him, frequently interprets his barking, and they often deliver bread together. Early concept art depicted her being found in the woods as a baby by a young Anpanman, though this backstory was not used in the final series. She once maintained a long-distance relationship with Omusubiman, an aspect no longer explored. Both Batako-san and Uncle Jam exhibit human-like appearances, despite humans being uncommon in their world.
