Description
Horrorman is a recurring character from the long-running Anpanman franchise, and his appearance in the film Soreike! Anpanman: Rhythm de Utaō! Anpanman Natsu Matsuri is consistent with his established role in the series. He is a skeletal figure with a starkly contrasting personality to his frightening exterior. Visually, Horrorman is a skeleton clad in a long, tattered purple shirt. The most prominent feature of his shirt is a pair of crossed bones displayed on the chest, which serve as his primary weapon. His physical form includes protruding kneecaps and prominent cheekbones, with a mouth that is perpetually open to show a full set of teeth, giving him a constant skeletal grin.

In terms of personality, Horrorman is best described as happy-go-lucky, clumsy, and goofy. Despite his potential to be scary, he is not malicious and is often taken advantage of due to his trusting and gullible nature. He has a desire to be kind but frequently lacks tact, accidentally hurting the feelings of others through his blunt actions. This dynamic extends to his attempts to frighten people; his deliberate efforts to be scary almost always fail, yet he ironically succeeds in startling others purely by accident due to his inherent nature and clumsiness. His speech patterns are often peppered with the word "hora," which is a Japanese exclamation similar to "look here" or "oh my," and is the basis for his name.

Horrorman's background is largely undefined, with few concrete details established about his origins. He made his first animated appearance in the 1991 film Fly! Fly! Chibigon, where he served as a mentor to the character Chibigon, though this role is specific to that film's continuity. A later short film in 2007 introduced a character named Horako who claimed he was once a prince, but this information was presented as unreliable and is generally considered apocryphal within the series' context.

A driving force behind many of his actions is his complex relationship with the character Dokin-chan. Horrorman harbors a persistent, one-sided romantic obsession with her. This infatuation motivates him to constantly attempt to impress her by gathering flowers and food, though his efforts are invariably unsuccessful. Due to his feelings for Dokin-chan, he often resides with the main antagonist of the series, Baikinman, and assists him. However, Horrorman does not consistently align with Baikinman's villainous schemes, indicating an ambivalent association rather than a full commitment to antagonism. His loyalty is easily swayed, and his primary motivation is his unrequited love rather than any desire for evil.

Horrorman is not a significant force for change within the story, but serves a specific role as comedic relief. His actions often derail Baikinman's plans through unintended blunders rather than heroic intervention. He is often depicted living with Baikinman and Dokin-chan in their base, and his interactions with them form the core of his narrative function. Despite his frightening appearance, he is frequently the victim of circumstances and is considered weak and easy to manipulate by others.

Regarding his abilities, Horrorman's notable power is the Bone Boomerang. He is able to detach the crossed bones from the emblem on his chest and throw them as boomerang weapons. Aside from this, he possesses no significant superhuman strength, and his physical form, while skeletal, is not portrayed as particularly durable or powerful. His portrayal in Soreike! Anpanman: Rhythm de Utaō! Anpanman Natsu Matsuri aligns with these established characteristics, presenting him as the same clumsy, lovesick, and well-meaning but accidentally frightening skeleton from the rest of the franchise.
