Description
Dokin-chan debuted as a germ character in the 1975 picture book "Anpanman and Dokin Chan," later becoming a recurring presence in the "Anpanman" anime. She acts primarily as Baikinman's partner in mischief, serving as a secondary antagonist who usually avoids direct combat. Her design features an orange-red germ body with a white face, green eyes, small red cheeks and nose, pink shoes, white hands, a single antenna, and a long tail reminiscent of Mushibaikinman's. Her Japanese name blends "doki" (heartbeat sound), "baikin" (germ), and the affectionate suffix "-chan." International dubs call her "Spark" (TMS/Cinar English), "Dokeen" (Tubi English), "Doquín" (Tubi Spanish), "红精灵" (Chinese, meaning "red lips"), and "짤랑" (Korean, meaning "jingle").

Dokin-chan exhibits selfishness, greed, and childish demands, frequently bossing Baikinman around for food, objects, or people. Beneath this antagonism, she occasionally reveals kindness, driven chiefly by an intense romantic fixation on Shokupanman. She decorates her space with his posters and plush toys, daydreams about him, and actively protects him during conflicts, even scolding Baikinman for putting Shokupanman in danger. Her loyalty wavers quickly, however, and she often flees unfavorable battles.

Key relationships define her dynamics: her partnership with Baikinman involves frequent rudeness and demands, masking underlying care; her generally amicable sibling bond with younger sister Kokin-chan includes rivalry over Shokupanman's affection; and she maintains neutrality with Anpanman, avoiding direct conflict unless part of Baikinman's schemes.

Historically, Dokin-chan wielded a specialized staff with ends that enlarged or shrank objects, though this tool disappeared in later episodes. She pilots a pink UFO equipped with yellow-handed appendages, typically using it for non-combat tasks like transporting flowers or hostages rather than attacks.

Dokin-chan appears in the 2015 theatrical short "Soreike! Anpanman: Rhythm de Utaō! Anpanman Natsu Matsuri." Throughout the franchise, her core traits have remained consistent since her introduction.
