Meiken Cheese, also called Cheese or Cheese the Super Watchdog, is a light brown dog with rabbit-shaped ears and a dark brown tail tip. Rescued as a starving puppy in the forest by Anpanman during his first patrol, Cheese bonded instantly when Anpanman shared part of his head to feed him. Batako-san later named him "Cheese" at Uncle Jam’s bakery.

He lives in a loaf-shaped doghouse outside the bakery, displaying high intelligence by understanding human speech and performing complex tasks despite barking as his primary communication. His exceptional hearing and scent-tracking abilities let him detect SOS signals or locate missing individuals. Initially walking on four legs, he gradually adopted an upright, two-legged gait while retaining canine postures for sitting and sleeping.

Cheese provides comic relief through dramatic, silly antics yet shows bravery by joining Anpanman in perilous missions, often carrying replacement heads. Though helpful with bakery chores, he sometimes feigns laziness to avoid work. His enormous appetite fuels enthusiastic eating, and he shares a close friendship with Butterko. He drives the Anpanman-go vehicle and aids in emergencies.

In the 2017 film *Buruburu no Takarasagashi Daibōken!*, Cheese supports the timid lion treasure hunter Buruburu on a quest, participating in adventures against Baikinman’s treasure-stealing schemes.

Trivia notes include his romantic relationship with Rare Cheese and early unused concepts where he briefly spoke dialogue followed by "woof." His breed remains officially unidentified.
