Meiken Cheese, also known as Cheese the wise dog or Cheese the super watchdog, is a recurring character in the Anpanman universe. He lives in a doghouse near the bakery run by Uncle Jam and Batako-san. His origin stems from being rescued as a lost, crying puppy in the forest by Anpanman. Batako-san named him "Cheese" after he was brought to the bakery.

Cheese is a small, light brown dog with short rabbit-like ears and a dark brown tip on his tail. Earlier manga and picture book depictions showed his ears as a darker brown than his body. His typical posture gradually evolved from primarily walking on four legs to more frequently standing upright on two legs, though he retains normal canine sitting and sleeping habits. He sleeps in an outdoor loaf-shaped dog house.

Highly intelligent, Cheese understands human language and performs tasks comparable to other characters, communicating exclusively through barks. His personality blends bravery with comedic traits; he often serves as comic relief through over-dramatic and silly behavior. Despite courageously charging into danger to assist Anpanman and frequently carrying or throwing Anpanman’s replacement heads, he displays laziness, especially when trying to avoid chores. He possesses a large appetite and eats hungrily.

His primary ability is an acute sense of smell, enabling him to track scents and locate individuals solely by scent. He often aids the group by being first to detect SOS signals. Within the bakery, he assists with baking and other tasks, though his dedication to chores fluctuates. He shares a close friendship with Batako-san and Butterko and has a romantic connection with Rare Cheese.

In the film "Soreike! Anpanman: Black Nose to Mahō no Uta," Cheese appears as part of the core cast of characters.
