Description
Meiken Cheese is a light brown dog with distinctive short rabbit-shaped ears and a dark brown tail tip. Rescued as a starving puppy in the forest by Anpanman during the series premiere, he was brought to Uncle Jam's bakery where Batako-san named him "Cheese." He lives in a loaf-shaped doghouse outside the bakery and shares a close friendship with Butterko.
Highly intelligent, Cheese understands human language and performs complex tasks despite communicating only through barks. His personality blends dramatic silliness with lazy moments, often providing comic relief. He charges bravely into danger to aid Anpanman, frequently carrying or throwing replacement heads during emergencies. Cheese possesses a large appetite, gulping down food hungrily.
His primary duties include assisting in the bakery, driving the Anpanman-Go vehicle, and being the first to spot SOS signals. An exceptional sense of smell allows him to track scents and locate individuals. Over time, his physical portrayal shifted from primarily walking on four legs to frequently walking upright on two legs, though he retains typical canine sitting and sleeping postures.
Cheese appears across various media, including the 30th film *Kagayake! Kurun to Inochi no Hoshi* (2018) and the DVD collection *Wakuwaku Collection Meiken Cheese to Denden Ichiza*, which features his centered episodes. Merchandise like hot-air balloon toys highlights his franchise prominence. He holds a romantic interest in Rare Cheese.
His precise dog breed remains officially unidentified, and his background before the forest rescue is similarly unspecified.
