Description
Chloe Von Einzbern, often referred to as Kuro, is a central figure introduced in the anime Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei!. Her existence is intrinsically linked to the protagonist, Illyasviel von Einzbern, as she is a distinct personality that split from Illya and was granted a physical form. The true nature of this split lies in their shared origin. As a child, Illya’s mother, Irisviel, sealed away a significant portion of her magical abilities, memories, and the knowledge of her intended purpose as a vessel for the Holy Grail. This sealed content grew within Illya over the years, eventually developing into its own sentient identity. When Illya used the power of the Archer class card, this secondary人格 was able to use that magical energy to manifest a separate body, creating Chloe.

Physically, Chloe is nearly identical to Illya, which often leads to humorous misunderstandings. However, she possesses tanned skin, stark white hair, and orange eyes, which creates a contrasting, inverted color palette compared to her counterpart. Her chosen combat attire is a more revealing, feminine version of the outfit worn by the heroic spirit EMIYA, typically consisting of a black leotard, red accents, and detached sleeves. When not fighting, she generally wears a school uniform or casual clothing.

Chloe’s personality is a direct reflection of her origins as the sealed, pragmatic side of Illya. She is far more cunning, confident, and forthright than the original, often displaying a mischievous and manipulative streak. Where Illya may hesitate, Chloe acts decisively, sometimes with a brazenness that borders on ruthless. This is especially evident in her initial goal of eliminating Illya, as she believed that two beings could not exist from one origin. Underneath this aggressive exterior, however, lies a deep vulnerability and a desperate desire to live. Having been forcibly sealed away and denied the chance at a normal life, she grapples with feelings of rejection and bitterness, particularly toward her mother, Irisviel, and Illya herself, who wished for a normal existence. This bitterness fuels much of her early conflict, but it ultimately gives way to a sweet and caring nature once she finds acceptance.

The primary driving force behind Chloe's actions is her own survival. Because she is an artificial existence who manifested without a proper magical contractor, her body constantly leaks prana, or magical energy. To sustain herself and prevent disappearing, she must regularly replenish her reserves. Her most efficient method for doing this is through direct mucous membrane contact—specifically, kissing—which creates a magical energy transfer. This need, which she sometimes cynically refers to as a medical procedure, leads to many comedic situations as she frequently attempts to steal kisses from Illya, her friends, and even unsuspecting classmates, earning her a reputation as a kiss demon.

Her role in the story evolves dramatically. Chloe debuts as an antagonist, attacking Illya and attempting to erase her from existence. After being captured by the mages Rin Tohsaka and Luvia Edelfelt, a curse is placed on her that shares all pain between herself and Illya, preventing her from harming her other half. Forced to coexist, she moves into the Emiya household and transfers to Illya's school under the guise of a cousin. Her narrative arc centers on her transition from a bitter enemy to a protective older sister figure. A key moment in her development occurs when she begins to fade away due to magical energy deprivation, and Illya, accepting her as a sister and a person, begs her to fight to live. Using her own latent nature as a Holy Grail, Chloe grants her own wish to exist, solidifying her place in the world.

Chloe's key relationships define her integration into the cast. Her bond with Illya is the most complex, evolving from antagonism to a bickering yet deep sisterly affection. She is more openly affectionate toward their brother, Shirou Emiya, often teasing him and expressing a romantic interest that she is far more forward about than Illya. She forms a close friendship with Miyu, whom she initially fought, and becomes a reliable ally to her. The mages Rin and Luvia serve as her exasperated caretakers, while classmates like Mimi, Suzuka, and Nanako are often the unsuspecting victims of her energy-draining kisses.

In combat, Chloe is an exceptionally skilled fighter, her abilities surpassing those of a typical magical girl her age. Because her form was manifested using the Archer card, she has full access to the powers of that heroic spirit, specifically EMIYA. This grants her the use of projection magic, allowing her to create temporary copies of weapons, most notably the paired swords Kanshou and Bakuya. She excels in close-quarters combat and archery, with her signature technique being the Kakuyoku Sanren, or Crane Wing Threefold, a complex maneuver involving the projection and manipulation of multiple swords to create an unavoidable attack. She can also utilize a projection of Rho Aias, a shield-like defensive armament, and is granted the class skill Independent Action, which allows her to operate without a direct master for a limited time.
