Description
Zen Kirishima is a widower and single father serving as Chief Editor of the Japun Magazine and Shounen Department at Marukawa Publishing. He oversees the hit manga "The Kan" by Ijuuin Kyou. His appearance features medium-length light brown hair, matching eyes, and fair skin; he wears business attire at work and casual clothing elsewhere.

His personality blends calmness with blunt honesty, often sharing unfiltered opinions that others find either refreshing or annoying. He remains relaxed under workplace pressure but exhibits intense possessiveness and jealousy within his romantic relationship, contrasting with his typically wise and cheerful demeanor.

His history involves his late wife Sakura, whom he met in middle school. Their initial antagonism evolved into romance after her high school confession. They married after college, but Sakura's health declined after deliberately risking pregnancy against medical advice, leading to her death shortly after their daughter Hiyori's birth. Her loss convinced Kirishima he could never experience true love again. As a widower, he focused entirely on raising Hiyori while balancing his demanding career, though his poor domestic skills led Hiyori to assume household responsibilities early. He wore his wedding ring posthumously to deter flirtation.

His relationship with Takafumi Yokozawa began when Kirishima encountered him drunk after Yokozawa's rejection by Masamune Takano. Kirishima blackmailed Yokozawa into companionship using allegedly embarrassing photos, initially masking his attraction. Their dynamic shifted as Yokozawa frequently visited Kirishima's home, bonding with Hiyori through domestic care like cooking and hairstyling. They eventually acknowledged mutual romantic feelings, with Kirishima admitting Yokozawa made him feel "like a love-struck teenager" despite believing himself incapable of such emotions after Sakura's death. He views Yokozawa as his destined partner, insisting they build a future together.

Within this relationship, Kirishima displays pronounced jealousy, even toward Hiyori, and enjoys teasing Yokozawa about his blushing. Yokozawa initially struggled with guilt, feeling inadequate compared to Sakura, but Kirishima clarified his enduring love for Sakura while presenting Yokozawa as a new chapter. Kirishima later proposed after recognizing Yokozawa's maternal bond with Hiyori. They agreed to conceal their relationship from Hiyori until she matured.

As Hiyori's father, Kirishima is fiercely protective yet acknowledges her independence. He dreads her eventual independence but trusts few individuals, including Yokozawa and his parents, with her care. His character development culminates in embracing a renewed capacity for love and family, with friends noting he visibly "oozes happiness" since beginning his relationship with Yokozawa.
