Description
Aotabou, also known as Kurata in his human guise, serves as the physically strongest yōkai of the Nura Clan and is called the degenerate priest who wears the iron blue robe. He has brown skin, white hair, and wears an iron blue robe beneath a black cloak with a cream-colored furry collar. A white skull rosary around his neck suppresses his immense strength; removing it transforms him into a Demon God known as a Kishin. In his human form, he appears tall with brown, spiky hair, still wears the skull rosary, and dresses in black. Centuries ago, he lived as a warrior monk who killed a thousand warriors. Facing execution, a holy man told him he could regain his humanity by saving one life for each he had taken. He cared for orphaned children, but when bandits attacked, killing them to protect the children caused his transformation into a Demon God and the permanent loss of his humanity. He joined Nurarihyon’s Hyakki Yakō four hundred years ago, later served under Rihan Nura, and helped care for the young Rikuo. Currently, he acts as one of Rikuo’s primary bodyguards, attending school under the alias Kurata alongside Tsurara Oikawa (Yuki Onna) to protect Rikuo and his human friends. He also leads the biker gang Blood Night Hyakki Yakō. Four years before the main events, he helped rescue humans during a school bus incident involving the Gagoze Alliance. During the Gyūki Arc, he rescued Rikuo’s friends and broke cage bars to free Kana and Yura. In the Shikoku Arc, he battled Tearai Oni and saved him from execution by Maō’s Hammer. In the Kyoto Arc, he protected the Kiyojūji Paranormal Patrol at the Keikain house, saved Akifusa Keikain from a fatal blow, and when Kana, Natsumi, and Maki were threatened, his rage destroyed Shōkera. He remained stationed at the Keikain main house until Rikuo’s return. Following the Kyoto battle, he was promoted to an executive member within the Nura Clan’s upper echelons. His known techniques include Gōriki Raisan, releasing his suppressed strength by removing the rosary, and Katsu, a spell that uses the rosary’s energy to induce sleep. His mythological connection to the deity Shōmen Kongō makes him a natural enemy to yōkai like Shōkera, who report human sins to heaven.
