Aotabou, also known as Kurata in his human guise, serves the Nura Clan as its physically strongest yōkai, earning the epithet "the degenerate priest who wears the iron blue robe." He possesses brown skin, white hair, and wears a distinctive iron blue robe beneath a black cloak featuring a cream-colored furry collar. A white skull rosary around his neck suppresses his immense strength; its removal triggers his transformation into a powerful Demon God (鬼神, Kishin). In his human form, he appears tall with brown, spiky hair, retains the skull rosary, and dresses in black. Centuries ago, before joining the Nura Clan, he lived as a warrior monk. After killing a thousand warriors and facing execution, a holy man offered him a path to regain his humanity: save one life for each life taken. He initially pursued redemption by caring for orphaned children, but failed when bandits attacked. Protecting the children necessitated killing the attackers, causing his transformation into a Demon God and the permanent loss of his humanity, cementing his existence as a yōkai. He joined Nurarihyon's Hyakki Yakō four hundred years ago, later serving under Rihan Nura and assisting in caring for the young Rikuo. Currently, he operates as one of Rikuo's primary bodyguards. To fulfill this role covertly, he attends school using the human alias Kurata, posing as a fellow student alongside Tsurara Oikawa (Yuki Onna). This allows him to protect Rikuo and his human friends, especially the Kiyojūji Paranormal Patrol members, from supernatural threats. He also leads the biker gang "Blood Night Hyakki Yakō." His involvement spans key conflicts. During the Gyūki Arc, he rescued Rikuo's friends Kiyotsugu and Shima from rogue yōkai on Mt. Nejireme, transporting them to safety, and later helped Rikuo free Kana and Yura by breaking cage bars. In the Shikoku Arc, he battled Tearai Oni, saving him from execution by Maō's Hammer. The Kyoto Arc saw him protecting the Kiyojūji Paranormal Patrol at the Keikain house. When attacked by Shōkera and underlings, he rendered the human investigators unconscious to shield them before engaging the enemy. His intervention saved Akifusa Keikain from a fatal blow, and his subsequent rage destroyed Shōkera when Kana, Natsumi, and Maki were threatened. He remained stationed at the Keikain main house until Rikuo's return. Following the Kyoto battle, his loyalty and service resulted in promotion within the Nura Clan hierarchy, ascending him to the upper echelons as an executive member. His known techniques include **Gōriki Raisan** (剛力礼讃), releasing his suppressed strength by removing the skull rosary, and **Katsu** (喝), a spell using the rosary's energy to induce sleep.
