Description
Tyranno, alternatively called Black Tyrannosaurus or Black T-Rex, is a genetically engineered giant Tyrannosaurus created and controlled by Seth. It emerges as the primary antagonist in the first season's latter half. Seth resurrected this dinosaur using a flawless Tyrannosaurus fossil stolen from a dig site, designing it as an ultimate weapon.

Physically, Tyranno surpasses standard Tyrannosaurus size, estimated at over three times larger—potentially reaching 135 feet in length. Its skin resists most ordinary Move Cards and displays distinctive orange patches resembling subsurface liquid magma, reflecting its Fire Attribute. A rolling glow across its skin underscores its unstable, enhanced nature. As an incomplete prototype, Tyranno exhausts energy reserves rapidly, forcing early recalls during initial rampages.

In combat, Tyranno employs the Fire Scorcher Move, summoning a giant meteor from its mouth to launch fiery explosions at opponents. This Move typically drains energy from other dinosaurs but bypasses Tyranno due to its alterations. Despite its power, Fire Scorcher never defeats another dinosaur on-screen, with opponents intercepting or narrowly avoiding it.

Tyranno debuts in "Tricks of the Traitor" and appears in episodes 47-49. Unleashed on the D-Team's city, it withstands attacks like Lightning Spear and Volcano Burst. During the Backlander battle, Tyranno defeats Maiasaura, Ceratosaurus, and Megaraptor through physical strikes and potentially dispatches Daspletosaurus and Euoplocephalus off-screen. It nearly defeats Terry with a tail swing and launches Fire Scorcher at Paris and Rex, though Jonathan intercepts the latter.

The climax involves a 14-part Super Fusion Move formed by multiple dinosaurs, including Ace, Paris, Allosaurus, and Terry. This combined attack overpowers Fire Scorcher and strikes Tyranno three times. After the third hit, Tyranno disintegrates into purple-glowing black energy strands and dissipates—a consequence of its unnatural resurrection—without reverting to a card. This destruction coincides with Backlander power system disruptions.

Tyranno's creation involved synthesizing Tyrannosaurus DNA for enhanced power, mirroring the Dinosaur Resurrection method from the DS game. Its English dub roar matches Saurophaganax's initial roar. Post-defeat, Tyranno remains unique as the only dinosaur surviving initial Fusion Move hits and the sole dinosaur not returning to card form.

Across media, Tyranno appears in the arcade game, anime, and Trading Card Game. Its TCG iteration carries the "Black Dinosaur" ability, requiring two discarded Fire Dinosaurs for summoning and prohibiting Fusion Moves. The arcade version lists zero Technique to balance its 2000 Strength. A discontinued vinyl figure depicts Tyranno's translucent, magma-like skin, resulting in high aftermarket prices.
