Description
Gao Mikado serves as the central protagonist across multiple Future Card Buddyfight series. Beginning as a 6th-year elementary student at Aibo Academy, his initial isolation ends when Buddyfight sparks friendships. The death of his older brother Yota Mikado profoundly shapes him, leading Gao to adopt Yota's comic creation persona, the "Mighty Sun Fighter," symbolizing his commitment to justice and protecting others. He inherits Yota's original comic from Genma Todoroki after their ABC Cup finals match, deepening his connection to his brother's legacy.
His family includes parents Suzumi and Takashi Mikado, who run a Mikado-style Aiki-jujutsu dojo where Gao trains rigorously. His mother teaches strictly, contrasting with his father's supportive approach. His younger sister Hanako holds him in high regard, and his grandmother Hanae Juumonji is noted for her culinary skills. Gao eventually marries Paruko Nanana and becomes the father of Yuga and Haru Mikado.
Personality-wise, Gao exhibits unwavering optimism and a strong sense of justice, believing Buddyfight can forge friendships, even with former adversaries like Kyoya Gaen. However, he struggles with a violent temper under extreme provocation, leading to aggressive actions like defeating Rouga Aragami in a single turn or destroying Disaster's base. This flaw stems from a childhood incident where his obsession with winning at martial arts caused him to injure an opponent, resulting in lasting guilt and fear of repeating such behavior. He also trusts others too easily and forgives quickly, sometimes exacerbating conflicts, as seen when Drum and Kiri Hyoryu temporarily leave due to self-doubt fueled by his successes.
Gao's Buddyfight journey starts after drawing a Buddy Rare card and receiving a Core Deck Case from Tasuku Ryuenji. Despite being a novice, he defeats Tasuku in his first match, beginning a long winning streak. His initial buddy is Drum Bunker Dragon ("Drum"), with whom he forms Team Balle du Soleil for tournaments like the ABC Cup and Gaen Cup. Gao's early Dragon World deck focuses on Armordragons, later diversifying to accommodate Drum's evolved forms by incorporating Magic World and Dungeon World elements. After Drum departs to train, Gao temporarily partners with Qinus Axia before Drum returns. In Triple D, he gains a new buddy, Bal Dragon, and uses a Sun Dragon archetype deck during the World Buddy Cup. Later, in Buddyfight X, he bonds with Demon Lord Dragon Batzz ("Batzz") and adopts a Thunder Empire deck featuring the Overturn mechanic for the World Buddy Masters tournament. His final arc includes the GGG Cup, where he utilizes all three buddies before moving to America.
Gao possesses unique abilities. Trained in Mikado-style Aiki-jujutsu, he excels in hand-to-hand combat. His Buddy Skill manifests as a golden hoverboard enabling flight. He also wields Future Force—initially activating involuntarily when enraged or endangered—which materializes Buddyfight cards and alters his appearance, like elongating his hair. He later masters its controlled activation. He evolves Impact cards, as seen with Gargantua Punisher!!, though this power reverts evolved cards when shared. Alternate forms include Dragon Force of Anger (unlocked during Bal's poisoning), Draconification (merging with Batzz at great personal risk), and Future Force DX (combining all forms).
Key story developments include his ABC Cup finals victory using Yota's "Sun Fist, Sunshine Impact" card, helping Genma embrace the Mighty Sun Fighter's ideals. His streak of 999 wins ends with a loss to Ikazuchi, triggering a breakdown where he temporarily quits Buddyfighting before rediscovering his passion. During the Hundred series, he serves as a Buddy Police officer, using Hero World and Omni Cavalry Dragon decks. In X, overusing an Impact card separates his spirit from his body, turning him into a ghost until Batzz intervenes. His story concludes with the GGG Cup tournament and his departure to America, transitioning into a background role as a revered figure.
