Description
Tomoka Minato is a sixth-grade student in class 6-C at Keishin Academy, where her class job is Flower Care. Her name, 湊 智花, carries the meaning of "Wise Flower." She answers to the nicknames Tomo, Mokkan, and Shiny Gift, the last one a tribute to her basketball talent and devotion.

She has short pink hair that falls to her shoulders and matching pink eyes, with a small mole beneath her left eye. Her height is 142 cm, and she has a slender build, with a noted concern about being less developed in the chest than her teammate Airi Kashii. Her blood type is A, and her birthday is September 9, making her a Virgo.

Her parents are Shinobu and Kaori Minato. The family resides in a spacious Japanese-style home, suggesting comfortable economic standing. A shared weakness with her father is a susceptibility to alcohol.

Before transferring to Keishin Academy, Tomoka attended a different school and played basketball. There, a consuming obsession with victory led to isolation from her teammates and necessitated her transfer. This experience made her abandon hope of playing again, though her love for the sport persisted.

At her new school, her exceptional basketball skills displayed during a physical education class caught the attention of Maho Misawa, who proposed forming a basketball club. Tomoka agreed on the condition that the team’s focus would be on enjoying the game with friends, not winning. Saki Nagatsuka, Airi Kashii, and Hinata Hakamada joined to complete the team. With their official advisor, Mihoshi Takamura, lacking basketball knowledge, Tomoka served as the initial de facto trainer.

When the team’s existence was jeopardized by a reckless wager, their teacher recruited her nephew, Subaru Hasegawa, a skilled high school player, to coach them. Tomoka became highly motivated to convince Subaru to stay on permanently, valuing both his coaching and his friendship. She grew the closest to him of all the teammates and is hinted to harbor romantic feelings for him, often behaving shyly in his presence, though alcohol lowers her inhibitions and makes her openly affectionate.

Her character is cheerful, kind-hearted, optimistic, respectful, and mature for her age, though she was initially reserved at her new school out of fear that her competitive nature would cause rejection. Over time, her joyful and lively true self reemerged among her new friends. She prioritizes friendship above all else and would sacrifice basketball if it meant not playing with them. She has a fear of cockroaches.

On the court, she is the team captain and wears jersey number 4. Her primary position is Shooting Guard. As the most experienced and skilled player, and the only one with prior basketball experience, her potential was immediately recognized by Subaru. Her versatile playing style is that of a point forward, effective in multiple positions including Small Forward and Point Guard. However, she struggled as Point Guard due to excessive politeness toward teammates and overcaution in executing plays. After Saki Nagatsuka took over the point guard role, Tomoka could concentrate on offense, leveraging her speed, skilled ball-handling, and accurate long-range jump shots.

A key part of her backstory shows that her deep devotion to basketball began with a childhood encounter with Subaru Hasegawa, who inspired her to take up the sport.

She maintains close bonds with all her teammates: Maho Misawa, who gave her the nickname Mokkan; Saki Nagatsuka; Airi Kashii; and Hinata Hakamada. She is a student of Mihoshi Takamura and a trainee of Subaru Hasegawa.
