Description
Kanami Yuta, an orphaned girl residing in the Lost Ground, starts unaware of Alter powers. Aged 8 in the anime and 9 in the manga, she lives with Kazuma. She manages their household finances due to Kazuma's unreliable mercenary income, affectionately calling him "Kazu-kun" despite his objections. Her appearance features long brown hair tied in a ponytail with a red ribbon, an orange coat, pale lilac shorts, orange socks, and brownish-red shoes.

Kanami displays maturity beyond her years, frequently scolding Kazuma for his irresponsibility calmly. Deeply concerned for his well-being, she develops romantic feelings for him, waiting years for his return after he leaves to protect the Lost Ground; her determination and patience define her character.

She possesses an unnamed Alter ability granting telepathic empathy, sensing others' emotions and intentions over distance. This power first manifests during sleep as dreams revealing Kazuma's battles and emotional states. As it develops, she actively senses individual animas while awake, such as detecting the non-human nature of the Tokonatsu Sisters. Later, Kyouji Mujo forcibly amplifies and exploits her power to probe individuals' core selves, extracting detailed personal information. In the anime's finale, she uses this ability for a telepathic love confession to Kazuma.

Her foundational relationship with Kazuma evolves from caretaker dynamics to unrequited love. She remains emotionally connected to him through her Alter abilities during his battles and absence. After Kazuma allies with Ryuho, Ryuho also develops protective instincts towards her; Kanami similarly nicknames him "Ryuu-kun".

Character portrayal differs across media. The anime depicts her as an Alter user, culminating in the telepathic confession. The manga portrays her as a normal human without Alter powers, removing the confession and focusing on her role as Kazuma's supportive companion. The *Alteration* films recap the anime's events with added footage but introduce no new character elements beyond her established anime portrayal.
