Description
Chiyu Sawaizumi is a hygienic, cheerful, and serious second-year student at Sukoyaka Middle School, exhibiting a strong sense of responsibility and often taking independent initiative to help others. Her family operates a hot springs inn. She excels athletically as the standout member of the track and field team, particularly in high jump, and demonstrates academic strength, especially in science. She harbors an unexpected appreciation for puns and wordplay humor, frequently laughing at such jokes when her peers do not.

Using her Healing Stick, a water-themed Transformation Element Bottle, and with her Healing Animal partner Pegitan—a penguin-like fairy she deeply adores and volunteered to partner with—Chiyu transforms into Cure Fontaine, the Pretty Cure of Water. Her transformation phrase is "The two intersecting streams! Cure Fontaine!" As Cure Fontaine, her charcoal hair turns vibrant blue, extending into a knee-length curled ponytail held by a pearl tiara featuring a sapphire heart centerpiece. She gains raindrop-shaped pearl earrings and a dark blue choker. Her battle outfit incorporates water-inspired elements like bubble motifs and flowing designs. Her attacks include Healing Stream, which purifies enemies with water-based energy.

Her character development centers on overcoming personal challenges. A childhood experience seeing the ocean and sky merge while swimming inspired her passion for high jump, symbolizing her desire to reach new heights. Repeated failures to clear her personal record led to frustration until her friends' support helped her accept limitations and persevere. She later grappled with choosing between pursuing athletics professionally or inheriting her family's inn, ultimately deciding to embrace both dreams after Pegitan encouraged her that dual paths are possible.

Relationships significantly shape her journey. She forms a close bond with Nodoka Hanadera (Cure Grace), prioritizing her well-being, and develops a friendship with Hinata Hiramitsu (Cure Sparkle), initially strained by contrasting personalities but strengthened through shared experiences. She acts as a mentor figure to Asumi Fuurin (Cure Earth), guiding her in understanding human emotions. Her younger brother Touji shares her dedication to the family inn, and they occasionally collaborate in hospitality duties. Rivalry defines her interactions with the Byogen general Shindoine, though this evolves into mutual respect over time.

Her name carries thematic significance: "Sawaizumi" combines "mountain stream" (沢) and "fountain" (泉), while "Chiyu" homophonically relates to "cure," "healing," and "recovery" in Japanese. Combined with her Cure identity "Fontaine" (French for "fountain"), it reflects her role in channeling healing like flowing water. She was born on August 21st.

In the film "Eiga Healin' Good ♥ Precure Yume no Machi de Kyun! tto GoGo!", she participates alongside her team in battling threats within a dream city, continuing her commitment to protecting both Earth and the Healing Garden. Her story concludes with an emotional farewell to Pegitan when the Healing Animals return to their realm; they reunite later during a visit where they collectively confront a new threat, reinforcing their enduring bond.
