Description
Sayuri Chiba resides at the Chiba Dojo in Edo with her father, Shusaku Chiba, founder of the Hokushin Ittō-ryū sword style and the dojo's master. She exhibits considerable swordsmanship skill and specializes in the naginata, establishing herself as a capable martial artist within the dojo. Sayuri actively participates in daily operations, training, and maintenance of the facility.

She demonstrates consistent sympathy and support for Suzunosuke Akado, a young swordsman training at the dojo, particularly during his initial struggles with strenuous chores and antagonism from senior disciples. Her assistance extends to practical actions, such as accompanying Suzunosuke on errands or visits like their trip to Asakusa Kannon temple. During these outings, she engages in combat against adversarial groups targeting the Chiba family.

Sayuri shares a complex relationship with Rainoshin Tatsumaki, a senior disciple whose initial hostility toward Suzunosuke indirectly involves her through dojo affiliations. After Rainoshin's defeat by Suzunosuke in a promotion match and subsequent excommunication, he allies with antagonistic forces like the Kimento, an organization plotting against the Edo Shogunate. This shift draws Sayuri into broader conflicts tied to the dojo's safety and the Kimento's schemes.

Her background includes familial connections central to the narrative: her father is historically inspired by a real swordsman, while her mother is referenced within household contexts. Sayuri contributes to both domestic dynamics at the Chiba Dojo and external confrontations with groups such as the Monotayu gang. Her actions consistently uphold the dojo's principles and support its members.
