TV-Series
Description
Lala Hagoromo is a humanoid alien from the planet Saman. She is the second member of the Star Twinkle Precure team and transforms into Cure Milky, the Pretty Cure of the Milky Way. In Earth years, she is 13 years old at the start of the series, but on her home planet she is considered an adult, a fact that heavily influences her personality and sense of self. Her birthday is July 7, which coincides with the Japanese Tanabata festival. She has pointed elfin ears, short teal hair with white and pink streaks, and antennae concealed under caps on the sides of her head. Her speech is marked by the suffix -lun at the end of sentences, and her catchphrase is Oyo.
Lala's background establishes her as a capable and responsible individual. On Saman, she works as a Level 8 investigator tasked with examining space debris. While on duty, she stumbles upon the fairy Fuwa and the mascot Prunce as they flee from the invading Notraiders. Agreeing to help them escape, she pilots a rocket that, thanks to Fuwa's powers, warps to Earth. There she meets Hikaru Hoshina, who later becomes Cure Star. Initially unable to speak Japanese, Lala is granted the ability to understand and speak the language by Fuwa. Hikaru later gives her the surname Hagoromo, meaning feather garment, a reference to the celestial robes of Japanese folklore and to her descent from the sky.
Lala's personality is characterized by a mix of reserve, diligence, and a quiet curiosity about human culture. She feels a heavy burden to prove her maturity because her society treats her as an adult at age 13, and she is often self-critical about her perceived immaturity. This leads her to be somewhat headstrong and insistent on analysis before action, occasionally clashing with the more impulsive Hikaru. Beneath her serious exterior, she is kind, empathetic, and deeply loyal to her friends. Over the course of the story, she learns to relax and embrace a more carefree, youthful side, thanks largely to the influence of her teammates.
Motivationally, Lala is driven by a strong sense of duty. She initially agrees to help Prunce and Fuwa recover the Princess Star Color Pens because it is the right thing to do, and she feels responsible for protecting the universe from the Notraiders. Her role in the story is that of the second Cure to awaken, providing a grounded, analytical counterbalance to Hikaru's boundless imagination. She often serves as the team's technician, operating the rocket and handling complex tasks. Her transformation into Cure Milky represents her embrace of her own power and her place among the legendary warriors.
Key relationships shape Lala's development. Her bond with Hikaru is central: the two start off frequently butting heads due to their differing approaches, but they grow exceptionally close. Hikaru's childish enthusiasm helps Lala loosen up and enjoy being a kid, while Lala's dedication and serious outlook help Hikaru focus on important goals. Lala also forms a meaningful connection with Yuni, Cure Cosmo, as both are aliens learning about Earth. Lala encourages Yuni to try new experiences, and they share a sense of kinship. With Elena Amamiya (Cure Soleil) and Madoka Kaguya (Cure Selene), she builds mutual trust and teamwork. She remains devoted to Fuwa and Prunce, and her family back on Saman—her father Toto, mother Kaka, and older twin brother Lolo—are occasionally referenced, grounding her background.
Notable abilities center on her antennae, which can generate and amplify electrical currents. Her primary attack as Cure Milky is Precure Milky Shock, a lightning-based technique that she can modify using the Leo, Gemini, and Cancer Princess Star Color Pens to produce different effects, such as increased power, speed, or defensive properties. She also has the ability to deploy a large barrier, though it requires more concentration and time to activate compared to Cure Star's instantaneous barrier. Her overall power set reflects the theme of the Milky Way and constellations, aligning with the series' space and star motifs.
Throughout the series, Lala experiences significant character development. She begins burdened by the expectation to act like an adult and often feels she must prove herself. As she spends more time on Earth and with her friends, she learns to accept her own imperfections and to value fun and spontaneity. By the end, she becomes more comfortable with her age and identity, having grown from a self-conscious alien into a confident and loving member of the Precure team.
