Description
Renge Miyauchi, the youngest student at Asahigaoka Branch School, progresses from first grade to third grade across the series and spin-off manga *Non Non Biyori: Remember*. She sports lavender hair in twin pigtails fastened with yellow ribbons—gifted by Kaede Kagayama during her infancy—and consistently half-open reddish-brown eyes, a trait shared solely with her sister Hikage among main characters. Born December 3, her Sagittarius personality aligns with B blood type. Her parents, rarely seen due to intensive agricultural work, and older sisters—teacher Kazuho and Tokyo-based high schooler Hikage—complete her family. Her grandmother provided her school backpack, though their interactions occur off-screen. Residing rurally, her family owns a mountain.

Renge blends curiosity, perceptiveness, and artistic skill. Academically adept, she solves multiplication via self-taught addition and wins a children's art contest. Linguistically inventive, she crafts greetings like "Nyanpasu" (merging "nyan" and "ohayō gozaimasu") and appends "non" to sentences as local dialect. She assigns affectionate nicknames, such as "Dagashiya" for Kaede or "Koma-chan" for Komari Koshigaya. Though typically expressionless, she reveals warmth and matures gradually, showing concern for others.

Relationships define her journey: Kaede Kagayama, a mother figure, ignited Renge's art passion by gifting crayons (OVA-revealed). Natsumi Koshigaya, her primary playmate since five years pre-series, taught her "Dagashiya." Hotaru Ichijō bonds with Renge over adventures like a rabbit-pen trapping, where Renge pragmatically suggested eating eggs. Seasonal visitor Honoka Ishikawa becomes her best friend; separation distresses Renge, though letters and reunions sustain them. She mentors younger children—comforting Shiori during childbirth and promising guidance to Kasumi.

In *Non Non Biyori Vacation*, Renge joins an Okinawa trip after Suguru Koshigaya's raffle win. Over four days, she sketches landscapes to share with her village, engaging in kayaking and lighthouse exploration that highlight her artistic focus.

Her interests encompass rabbits, curry, plum kelp tea, and candies; she dislikes peppers. She owns a pet tanuki named "Gu," summoned via specialized whistles, and once cared for a tadpole shrimp called "Hirataira-san." Standing 117–134 cm tall, she carries Kazuho-gifted recorder and often composes songs.

Her name "Renge" ("lotus flower") references Chinese milkvetches blooming during the series finale's spring outing, cementing her ties to nature and rural life.
