Professor Hiroshi Agasa, an inventor and engineer, resides next door to the Kudo family. Approximately 53 years old, he presents as slightly overweight and bald, with silver hair, thick eyebrows, a mustache, and a bulbous nose, typically seen in round glasses and a lab coat. Agasa attended Teitan Elementary and Okuho Middle School. His family relocated from Tokyo to the countryside during his childhood after classmate Fusae Kinoshita moved away. His relatives include his deceased gadget-enthusiast great-uncle, Kurisuke Agasa, his great-aunt Teiko Agasa who passed away a year before the main timeline, an unnamed cousin, and that cousin's granddaughter. A family friend of Shinichi Kudo since childhood, Agasa became the first person to learn Shinichi had been transformed into Conan Edogawa by the Black Organization's APTX 4869 poison. He advised Shinichi to conceal his identity for safety, facilitated his new life by enrolling him at Teitan Elementary School (leading to the Detective Boys' formation), and provided Conan with investigative gadgets like the Voice-Changing Bowtie, tracer badges, and flashlight-watches. Agasa later discovered Shiho Miyano (codenamed "Sherry"), the APTX 4869 developer, collapsed near his home after escaping the Black Organization. He took her in, learned her identity, and helped her assume the alias Ai Haibara. He subsequently informed Shinichi's parents, Yusaku and Yukiko Kudo, of their son's condition. Personality-wise, Agasa is jovial, caring, and outgoing. He leverages community connections to plausibly explain Conan and Haibara's presence as children of acquaintances. Though a bachelor, he exhibits paternal instincts, often chaperoning the Detective Boys on trips that inadvertently involve criminal cases. Highly intelligent, he creates a mix of useful and impractical inventions, with functional gadgets deployed in official contexts. He enjoys pasta, tomato juice, and possesses remarkable luck winning food-related prizes. Agasa drives an unreliable yellow Volkswagen Beetle and once owned a valuable Persian rug entangled in a theft investigation, preventing its sale. He maintains familial bonds, attempting to match his cousin's granddaughter with police detective Wataru Takagi. Throughout the series, Agasa aids Conan and allies against the Black Organization indirectly, providing technological support and safe haven. Key involvements include using the Voice-Changing Bowtie to protect Conan's identity, assisting in treasure hunts like the Moon-Star-Sun code at his uncle's house, and tracking organization members during confrontations. His role as a confidant and guardian remains consistent across all media.
