Description
Maki Nishikino, a first-year student at Otonokizaka High School, joins the school idol group μ's as part of the subunit BiBi. Her image color, red, highlights her prominence within the group. She hails from a wealthy, influential family of doctors who own a hospital, positioning her as the sole heiress. This legacy pressures her toward a medical career, initially forcing her to suppress her musical passion despite childhood piano lessons and exceptional talent. She abandons music until μ's invites her.

Her family’s wealth includes multiple properties: a beach house hosting μ's summer training in Season 1 Episode 10 and a mountain vacation house featured in Season 2 Episode 2. These locations become group activity sites, though Maki’s initial reluctance to join casual outings reflects her reserved nature.

Maki embodies a tsundere personality, struggling to express genuine emotions while masking vulnerability with aloofness or sharpness. Prideful and stubborn, she clashes with Nico Yazawa, who openly notes their shared stubbornness. Despite her cool exterior, she harbors childlike beliefs like unwavering faith in Santa Claus. During a group trip to her mountain house, she insists on cleaning the chimney for Santa’s arrival, prompting other members to stop Nico from shattering her belief.

Before μ's, Maki spent most days alone in the music room, revealing her solitary, introverted tendencies. Sheltered upbringing with limited social interaction fuels her initial awkwardness in groups. Over time, she gradually opens up to members, though she occasionally fumbles to articulate her attachment.

As μ's primary composer and vocal coach, Maki leverages advanced piano skills to create accessible melodies all members can sing. Creative blocks drive her to seek casual conversations with others for inspiration. Beyond music, she enjoys stargazing, photography, and academic excellence—achieving perfect test scores. After third-year members graduate, she becomes vice president of the Idol Research Club.

Her development centers on reconciling family obligations with personal desires. A pivotal moment occurs when coaching Hanayo Koizumi to find her singing voice, reflecting Maki’s unspoken support for others’ dreams despite her own sense of confinement. Witnessing Hanayo’s determination inspires Maki to embrace music and commit to μ's permanently. Her growth surfaces in heightened group decision involvement and emotional investment in μ's continuity, especially post-graduation discussions.

Within μ's, Maki shares significant bonds, particularly with Nico Yazawa. Their dynamic mixes friction and mutual reliance: Nico provokes Maki’s tsundere reactions while acknowledging her dedication. Rin Hoshizora often teases Maki but defends her in vulnerable moments. Nozomi Tojou acts as a subtle mentor, guiding Maki toward emotional openness through strategic interventions.

Physically, Maki has crimson shoulder-length hair, purple eyes, and stands 161 cm tall. She favors stylish attire reflecting her affluence but typically wears the Otonokizaka uniform with a blue first-year bow. She enjoys tomatoes and dislikes mikan.

Personal reflections show Maki questioning her parents’ predetermined path, desiring freedom from expectations. Diary entries expose her inner conflict between family duty and self-identity. She admits feeling like a "princess in a cage" and yearns for rescue, later channeling this longing into idol activities.
