Description
Alexander "Sasha" Nikolaevich Hell, a Russian-born Qwaser, manipulates iron at the molecular level, activating his powers through breast milk (soma). Silver hair and a prominent scar on his left cheek—resembling an inverted Eastern Cross—mark his appearance. This scar bleeds during intense emotion or combat, often accompanied by his left eye turning red. It originated from a traumatic encounter where the Aurum (Gold) Qwaser murdered his guardian Olja, an event fueling his vendetta against the Adepts and shaping his initial cold, detached demeanor.
Recruited by the Athos faction, Sasha infiltrates St. Mihailov Academy to protect the sacred Theotokos of Tsarytsin icon. His early interactions display difficulty adhering to social norms, frequently clashing with Mafuyu Oribe over his disregard for conventions. Despite initial abrasiveness, he develops protective instincts toward Tomo Yamanobe due to her resemblance to Olja, and a reluctant mutual attraction forms with Mafuyu. After confronting the sodium Qwaser Shin'ichiro Ōtori and attaining the fourth grade of elemental control, Sasha departs, leaving Mafuyu to train for his final confrontation with the Aurum Qwaser.
On subsequent missions, Sasha partners with Hana Katsuragi as his new Maria following Ekaterina's transfer of guardianship. Tasked with locating the Magdalena of Thunder, one of the five irreplaceable High Ancient Circuit artifacts, he infiltrates the all-girls Suirei Private High, necessitating cross-dressing. This cover forces him into feminine attire and social integration. His popularity contrasts sharply with his blunt, invasive methods of obtaining soma, including publicly groping students. These actions draw suspicion and hostility, particularly from sorority leader Miyuki Seta, whom he defeats in a duel and forcibly extracts soma from, leaving her violated.
Sasha's combat evolves from wielding a large scythe to incorporating a katana-like sword, utilizing atomic vibration for thermal attacks. His vulnerabilities surface during a virtual duel defeat to Tsubasa Amano, where Jita's subsequent physical molestation leaves him humiliated, revealing psychological fragility beneath his stoicism. Throughout these conflicts, his resolve remains fixed on preventing the Adepts from seizing holy artifacts, though his single-minded pursuit of soma strains alliances and endangers innocents.
His arc concludes with ongoing training to confront the Aurum Qwaser, unresolved romantic tension with Mafuyu, and an enduring commitment to Athos's goals, as he balances ruthless efficiency with emerging ethical considerations about collateral damage.
