Description
Alexander Nikolaevich Hell, known as Sasha, is a Russian-born Qwaser operating for the Eastern Orthodox espionage agency Athos. His primary power allows him to manipulate iron, manifesting it into weapons like a large black scythe, kunai, and later a katana-like sword. This ability demands frequent replenishment through consuming soma, vital energy derived from breast milk, which directly fuels his combat effectiveness.

Sasha's past is marked by trauma inflicted by the religious sect known as the Twelve Adepts. They subjected him to barbaric practices in their quest to manufacture powerful Qwasers, ultimately discarding him as useless. His vendetta against them stems from their murder of Olja, a significant figure in his life. This event left him with a large, inverted Eastern Cross-shaped scar on the left side of his face; this scar bleeds during intense combat or emotional excitement, often accompanied by his left eye turning red.

Initially socially austere and struggling with Japanese cultural norms, Sasha gradually forms deeper connections after being rescued and nursed back to health by Mafuyu Oribe and Tomo Yamanobe. He becomes fiercely protective of them, especially Tomo, whom he associates with Olja. This protective drive extends to opposing the Adepts' exploitation of innocents, such as kidnapping young women to extract high-quality soma. Sasha demonstrates significant combat growth, advancing to the fourth grade of elemental control and expanding his arsenal.

His relationship with Mafuyu evolves from mutual frustration to romantic tension, culminating in a separation for training and their eventual reunion, where they share their first kiss. He also interacts with other Qwasers like Ekaterina Kurae, who initially attempts to subjugate him. Sasha's character arc emphasizes his growing understanding of human life's value and rejection of the Adepts' methods, reinforcing his role as a key defender against their pursuit of the Theotokos of Tsarytsin icon.

Sasha's combat engagements frequently place him at the center of major conflicts, confronting high-level Adept Qwasers. His ferocity peaks when Tomo is targeted for her soma, driving him to greater lengths to ensure her safety. Despite his harsh upbringing, he gradually integrates into the social environment of St. Mihailov Academy, participating in mundane activities like sharing meals with Mafuyu, whose borscht he favors.

Following a significant battle against Shin'ichiro Ootori, Sasha undertakes further training to prepare for future threats, reflecting his ongoing commitment to personal growth and the protection of his allies. His journey underscores themes of vengeance, redemption, and the ethical use of power within the conflict between Athos and the Adepts.
