Ramba Ral, son of Jimba Ral, held a complex position due to his father's status as a close associate of Zeon Zum Deikun, the Principality of Zeon's ideological founder. Following Deikun's death, Jimba fled to Earth with Deikun's children, Casval and Artesia, to shield them from Zabi family persecution. Despite this tension, Ramba Ral continued his service within the Zeon military. He joined the Zeon Army in UC 0064, gaining significant recognition as a skilled tactician and master of guerilla warfare. His combat prowess piloting a distinctive blue MS-04 Zaku I during the Battle of Loum in UC 0079 earned him the moniker "Blue Giant." This reputation led to blue becoming the official mass-production color for the MS-07B Gouf mobile suit. After Garma Zabi's death pursuing the Federation assault carrier White Base, Ramba Ral was assigned to lead a Special Pursuit Force tasked with destroying the vessel and its prototype RX-78-2 Gundam to avenge Garma. He descended to Earth aboard a Zanzibar-class mobile cruiser, accompanied by his lover Crowley Hamon and subordinates including Acous and Cozun Graham, and was provided with a prototype ground-combat Gouf. His campaign against the White Base began with reconnaissance in force, attacking the ship in the North Pacific to gauge its capabilities. The power of his Gouf and tactical acumen visibly shook the Gundam's pilot, Amuro Ray. Operating from a Gallop-class land battleship, Ral employed guerilla tactics to harass the White Base traversing the Central Asian deserts, losing wingmate Acous in combat while Cozun Graham was captured and later killed during a failed rescue. A pivotal encounter occurred when Ramba Ral's team visited a desert town café and encountered the temporarily deserted Amuro Ray and Federation soldier Fraw Bow. Demonstrating honor, Ral released them unharmed but assigned men to track them, observing Amuro's readiness to draw a concealed pistol and remarking, "You have the eyes of a soldier," acknowledging the young pilot's potential. This encounter preceded a subsequent battle where Ral's forces launched a surprise attack. During intense mobile suit combat, Ral and Amuro slashed open each other's cockpits, leading to mutual recognition. Though Amuro destroyed the Gouf, Ral escaped by leaping from the cockpit and using a grappling hook attached to the Gundam's arm. Following this defeat and denied Dom mobile suit reinforcements by M'Quve due to inter-Zeon factional priorities, Ral resolved to fulfill his mission with available resources. He led a close-quarters assault on the White Base while the Gallop and a Zaku II distracted its mobile suits. Successfully boarding the ship, he encountered Sayla Mass and recognized her as Artesia Zum Deikun, stating he had served her father. This recognition caused him to lower his guard, allowing Ryu Jose to shoot him. Wounded, Ral retreated into the secondary bridge. When Bright Noa ordered the Gundam to destroy that section, Ral armed a grenade and leaped toward the Gundam, dying in the explosion on November 5, UC 0079. Ramba Ral was characterized by a strong sense of duty, tactical brilliance, and a code of honor extending even to enemies. His leadership inspired deep loyalty among subordinates who followed him despite dire odds. His actions and mentorship-like interactions with Amuro Ray forced the young pilot to confront the human cost of war and soldierhood's complexities.
