Description
Hide is a young boy living in post-war Japan. He shoulders family caregiving responsibilities for his critically ill younger sister, Miyoko. Motivated by her deteriorating condition, Hide promises Miyoko he will arrange for her to see a real elephant. This promise drives him to visit the local zoo. There, he encounters an elderly man connected to the zoo's past operations. Through this interaction, Hide learns about historical wartime events at the facility: the deliberate slaughter of animals, including elephants, deemed dangerous. This measure was implemented due to fears that Allied bombings might release the animals, causing harm. Hide's development stems from this revelation. His initial focus on fulfilling a personal promise to his sister becomes intertwined with confronting a broader, community-level tragedy. The narrative concludes with this singular journey of discovery and its emotional impact. Hide has no additional appearances or developments in other seasons, films, OVAs, or spin-offs.
