TV-Series
Description
Kenji Mitsusada, almost universally known by his nickname Koutei, is a prominent cardfighter and the leader of Team Caesar. The nickname Koutei itself is Japanese for "Emperor," a title that reflects his commanding presence in a fight and his deep, almost scholarly fascination with ancient Roman history, particularly the legacy of Julius Caesar. This interest directly inspired the name of his team and shapes his self-presentation as a modern-day equivalent of a noble leader. Physically, he is recognized by his short blonde hair, silver eyes, and a signature long crimson red coat, often worn over white pants and dark shoes. A small grey pendant given to him by his teammate Yuri is a constant and meaningful accessory around his neck, symbolizing their long-standing bond.

In his normal state, Kenji is defined by a friendly, courteous, and surprisingly humble personality. Outside of a cardfight, he dislikes being in the spotlight and carries himself with a gentle demeanor, treating most people with kindness and possessing no ill intentions. He approaches losses with remarkable grace, viewing them not as failures but as valuable opportunities for growth, especially when the advice comes from respected rivals or friends like Toshiki Kai. However, this core personality is violently subverted during the Link Joker invasion when he is subjected to the power of Reverse. In this corrupted state, his strong desire to uphold a personal sense of justice is twisted into tyrannical ambition. As a Reversed fighter, he becomes a merciless emperor who demands absolute obedience, using his strength to bend others to his will and trample anyone who opposes him. This transformation is so complete that he denies his own history of effort and friendship, claiming that only power matters. He is eventually defeated and restored to his true self by Leon Soryu.

Kenji's journey in cardfighting began long before the main story, starting as an inexperienced rookie who would frequently lose at a card shop run by the siblings Yuri and Gai Usui. Through persistence and rapid learning, he grew strong enough to surpass them both, eventually taking over as the leader of their newly formed Team Caesar. He inherited Yuri's pendant as a symbol of this achievement and went on to become the national champion two years prior to the series' start. However, he was ultimately dethroned from this title by the powerful Ren Suzugamori in the national tournament, an event that humbled him rather than embittered him. This experience led him to seek out and form a powerful, friendly bond with Team Q4 (Aichi Sendou's team), treating them as respected rivals and working together with them in preparation for future tournaments.

Kenji's motivations are rooted in a desire to leave a mark on history through his own sense of justice, a goal he pursues with the earnestness of a hero from the historical tales he loves. His role in the story evolves significantly over time. After losing the national title to Ren and later being defeated by Aichi Sendou, he participates in the VF Circuit, where he achieves a notable victory against Ren in a rematch by successfully executing a Superior Crossride to bring out his ultimate unit. Following this, he announces his retirement from tournament competition to focus on his studies abroad at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), a decision that puts Team Caesar on hiatus. He returns from Singapore just in time for the Link Joker arc, where he is quickly targeted and Reversed by Kai. After being saved by Leon, he aids in de-programming other Reversed fighters. In later story arcs, his memory of Team Q4 is erased due to world-altering events, making him unfamiliar with former allies like Misaki Tokura and Kamui Katsuragi. He later appears as a world-class professional fighter and even stars as himself in a tokusatsu-style film, The Chronicles of the Dimension Police, showcasing his enduring, almost meta, connection to themes of heroism.

His key relationships are foundational to his character. The most important are with his teammates Yuri and Gai Usui, who mentored him, fought alongside him, and consider him a modern-day Caesar. His rivalry with Ren Suzugamori is a major driver of his competitive spirit, while his friendships with members of Team Q4, particularly Aichi Sendou, represent a bond of mutual respect between rivals. His dynamic with Toshiki Kai is complex, moving from a respected opponent to the one who corrupted him under the Link Joker's influence. Gouki Daimonji, a fighter he defeats and from whom he inherits a headband, also represents a meaningful, if brief, connection.

As a fighter, Kenji exclusively uses the Dimension Police clan, which features robot-themed units that align perfectly with his sense of justice and power. His ace unit is the Super Dimensional Robo, Daiyusha, which later evolves into more powerful forms like Great Daiyusha and Daikaiser. His playstyle is aggressive and strategic, focusing on building a powerful vanguard and overwhelming the opponent. He is known for pioneering the use of a Superior Crossride, a powerful technique that allows him to upgrade his vanguard directly from the deck. A key card in his strategy is Commander Laurel, which can re-stand the vanguard for a second attack, creating a devastating finishing turn. During his Reversed phase, he uses a corrupted version, Dark Dimensional Robo, "Яeverse" Daiyusha, which focuses on weakening the opponent's units. His development as a fighter is a testament to his growth, from a struggling rookie to a national champion, to a world-traveling professional, showing a consistent trajectory of learning, adapting, and striving to embody the ideal of the just emperor he so admires.
