Description
Hug-tan is a mysterious infant who plummets from the sky alongside her guardian, Hariham Harry, as they flee the Criasu Corporation. Her origins emerge later: she hails from a dystopian future where she battled as Cure Tomorrow alongside fellow Pretty Cure warriors against Criasu's tyranny. Following her teammates' capture, she rescued Harry from a monstrous transformation and used her power to propel them both into the past. This temporal journey drained her energy, regressing her to infant form and inducing amnesia.
Her future civilian identity is Hagumi Nono, daughter of Hana Nono (Cure Yell). The name "Hagumi" combines Japanese words for "growing beauty" and functions as a pun on "hug me." Her journey to the past unintentionally forged a time paradox: by altering events, she prevented her tragic future origin, birthing a new timeline where the Criasu Corporation never formed and key characters embraced positive life paths.
Physically, Hug-tan possesses pinkish-blonde hair in twin-tails secured by white bands, red eyes, and yellow eyelashes. She typically wears a light pink scalloped top with a bib, sky blue bloomers, and cream booties adorned with pink bows. A distinctive pearl headpiece featuring a blue heart gem rests on her forehead, a remnant of her Cure Tomorrow form. During special attacks like "Cheerful Attack," her attire shifts to a white dress with a magenta collar and iridescent accessories. As Cure Tomorrow, she manifests as a teenager with voluminous curly hair, clad in a pearl-pink mini-dress featuring a ruffled skirt, off-shoulder sleeves, and flowing cape-like fabric. Her transformation includes pink shoes with frilly cuffs and heart-shaped earrings.
Personality-wise, Hug-tan exhibits cheerfulness and courage despite occasional grumpiness. She actively supports the Pretty Cure team during battles, even risking herself. She comforts distressed individuals by patting them and uttering "There, there" in baby talk. Though de-aged, she retains fragmented memories, particularly her immediate attachment to Hana upon their first meeting. As Cure Tomorrow, her demeanor becomes graceful and soft-spoken, displaying unwavering determination to protect the future. This calm nature allows her to pacify Harry in his monstrous state and catalyze his defection from Criasu.
Her abilities center on "Tomorrow Power," the energy that creates futures. She is sensitive to its fluctuations and weakens when it diminishes. She can purify monsters called Oshimaida by channeling Tomorrow Power, though this exhausts her into a comatose state. Her cries trigger localized time freezes, affecting everyone except potential Pretty Cures. She gradually develops like a human infant: standing unaided, teething, eating baby food, and eventually speaking and understanding language. Notably, she demonstrates the power to summon past Pretty Cure teams and figures like Santa Claus. As Cure Tomorrow, she purifies Harry's monstrous form and creates a gold chain from her own power to suppress his inner darkness.
Key relationships define her journey. She views Hana as "mama," foreshadowing their biological connection, and bonds with Saaya Yakushiji, Homare Kagayaki, Emiru Aisaki, and Ruru Amour as maternal figures. Her deepest bond is with Harry, her primary caretaker, whom she saved in the future. After returning to her restored timeline as a teenager, Harry remains her sole companion until her rebirth.
Her development shows progressive maturation: she utters her first word ("mama") after Hana revives her from a coma, begins walking, and eventually communicates coherently. The series concludes with her return to the future, reverting to her Cure Tomorrow form. In the epilogue set in 2030, she is reborn as Hana's biological daughter through a depicted childbirth sequence, ensuring a happier life than her original timeline.
