Description
Hug-tan is the mysterious infant mascot of Hugtto! Precure who descends from the sky alongside her caretaker, Hariham Harry, while fleeing from the Criasu Corporation, an evil organization from the future. Her true identity is Cure Tomorrow, a Pretty Cure from a future timeline that was conquered by Criasu. After her teammates were captured, she harnessed the power of the white Mirai Crystal to escape to the past, but the immense energy required for time travel caused her to regress into an infant state.
Despite her physical vulnerability and baby-like behavior, Hug-tan possesses a predominantly cheerful and courageous disposition. She is remarkably proactive during conflicts, often trying to assist the Pretty Cure team even when it places her in danger. Her empathetic nature manifests when she attempts to console distressed companions, using a soothing baby-talk expression that translates to "There, there". Even in her regressed form, fragments of her original consciousness remain, which explains why she immediately feels comfort and familiarity when held by her future mother, Hana Nono, also known as Cure Yell.
Throughout the series, Hug-tan functions as the emotional heart of the team and the catalyst for the main conflict, as the Criasu Corporation seeks her power for their own purposes. She exhibits physical and linguistic development consistent with a human baby, learning to stand on her own feet, speak her first words, and eventually walk and form simple sentences. Her first spoken word is mamma, which she uses to address Hana, along with Saaya, Homare, and eventually others whom she affectionately calls her mamas. This seemingly casual address later proves significant, as it reveals her true parent-child relationship with Hana.
Hug-tan's most notable abilities are tied to Tomorrow Powerer, the energy that creates futures. She is highly sensitive to this power, weakening when it diminishes, and can harness accumulated energy to purify Oshimaida, the monsters created by the enemy. However, using this ability exhausts her severely, often plunging her into a deep sleep accompanied by high fever. As the series progresses, she demonstrates remarkable capabilities beyond her infant form, including the power to summon Pretty Cures from past seasons, such as Cure Black and Cure White from the original Futari wa Pretty Cure series. She also displays unexplained immunity to temporal stasis abilities, remaining mobile when time has been frozen around her.
Hug-tan maintains a crucial relationship with her caretaker Harry, whom she saved from transforming into a monster by using her power to purify him and suppress his dark abilities with a specially created necklace. Her bond with Cure Yell deepens throughout the story, culminating in the revelation that Hana is her mother from the future. In the series epilogue, set in the year 2030, Hug-tan is restored to her original form and revealed as Hana's daughter, named Hagumi Nono. Her decision to travel back in time creates a temporal paradox that ultimately rewrites the future for the better, preventing the founding of the Criasu Corporation in the new timeline and ensuring that Hana can live without the tragedy that originally befell her.
