Description
Aoi Tategami is a 14-year-old second-year middle school student from the prestigious Tategami Corporate family. Her dark blue hair flows in a thick ponytail secured by a yellow ribbon, framing bright blue eyes and distinctive fanged teeth. She favors a rebellious style: a white raglan top, light blue mini-skirt, dark blue leather jacket adorned with a gold crown pin, blue thigh-high stockings, and black-and-white sneakers. Valuing freedom above all, Aoi embodies an enthusiastic, bold spirit—brave and untamed like a lion—yet chafes under her family’s strict expectations for behavior and appearance.

Her passion for rock music ignited in childhood after witnessing singer Ayane Misaki’s performance. She later honed her skills busking on the streets, where bandleader Sonobe Kei discovered her and invited her to join Wild Azur as vocalist. The band’s name mirrors her signature color (blue) and fiery determination. This pursuit initially clashed with her butler, Mizushima Mitsuyoshi, who groomed her as the family’s refined heiress. He eventually embraced her dreams after recognizing her dedication.

During a Battle of the Bands competition, Aoi defends a lion-faced ice cream treat from the Kirakiraru Thief Hotto. Her resolve awakens an Animal Sweet and Sweets Pact, transforming her into Cure Gelato—the Pretty Cure of freedom and passion, blending ice cream and lion motifs. As Cure Gelato, her hair brightens into a voluminous lion-like mane, accented by blue ears and a tail. She dons a crown with ice cream detailing, an ice cream cone-patterned jacket, a two-toned skirt resembling swirls, and paw-inspired gloves and boots. Her battle cries—"I’m getting fired up!" and "Woooah!"—herald ice-based attacks: freezing her fists to strike foes or unleashing roars that shatter negativity.

She bonds with Usami Ichika (Cure Whip), who admires her music, and forms a close friendship with Arisugawa Himari (Cure Custard) despite their contrasting natures. Within Wild Azur, she maintains deep ties with bandmates Kei, Ryuuta, and Sara, eventually succeeding Kei as leader. A turning point arises when Mitsuyoshi drags her from a concert, exposing her lineage. This conflict resolves when Mitsuyoshi, during an assault by the villain Julio, confesses his secret appreciation for her music and pledges support for her dual life as musician and patisserie apprentice.

In *Pretty Cure Dream Stars!*, Aoi joins the Go! Princess and Witchy teams on a mission to the Magical World. She combats Yokubaru monsters alongside the Mahou Girls Cures and unites all teams against the antagonist Karasu Tengu. The film highlights group synergy, with Aoi contributing her ice powers and strength without unique personal arcs.

Her growth includes battling self-doubt when Wild Azur is overshadowed at the Blue Rock Festival, briefly falling prey to corruption as Dark Gelato. Friends’ encouragement restores her, reigniting her passion for performance. As an adult, she continues rocking with Wild Azur, adopting a mature yet bold style while keeping her iconic ponytail.
