Description
Mitake Ran serves as the vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the band Afterglow. She is a third-year student at Haneoka Girls' High School and the sole heir to her family's century-old flower arrangement school. Her father's expectation for her to inherit the school prompted Ran to form Afterglow partly as rebellion, sparking significant conflict at home as he disapproved of her band activities. After demonstrating her dedication to music, their relationship improved; her father ceased pressuring her about succession and began supporting the band, regularly attending concerts. Ran then started participating more actively in ikebana while maintaining her band commitments.

Ran possesses short black hair featuring a distinctive red streak, dyed during high school in contrast to her previous all-black hair. Her typical attire incorporates punk-inspired elements like leather jackets, ripped denim shorts, studded belts, and ankle boots, often in Afterglow's associated colors of black and red. Due to nearsightedness, she occasionally wears glasses, which others initially mistook for glaring in anger. Her appearance blends rebellion with band identity, the dyed hair symbolizing individualism tied to her group.

Personality-wise, Ran is strong-willed, hates losing, and deeply treasures her childhood friends and family. Despite a cool, aloof exterior, she experiences loneliness and struggles with social awkwardness, finding it difficult to initiate conversations or express herself to strangers, sometimes leading to misinterpretations of her quietness as disinterest. Around her close friends, particularly her Afterglow bandmates, she becomes more open, showing subtle care through attentive observation and concern for their well-being. She habitually internalizes problems and resists relying on others, a tendency that caused friction during her withdrawal amid conflicts with her father. She also avoids replying to text messages, often leaving others "on read" or responding minimally.

Her character development involves reconciling dual passions. As she dedicated more time to ikebana, her reduced band availability led her to contemplate disbanding Afterglow after high school to preserve their "legend" while they could still "shine brightly," fearing diminished intensity as members pursued future paths. This upset her bandmates, but after witnessing their performance and reflecting on their bond, she tearfully recommitted to continuing the band. Her growth is marked by learning to balance personal interests with collective relationships and accepting support.

Ran's songwriting originates from poetry she began writing when separated from her friends in middle school, channeling loneliness into lyrics emphasizing emotional bonds over technical skill. She views music as an expression of friendship, contrasting with Roselia's Yukina Minato's perfectionist approach, fueling a rivalry where Ran respects Yukina but occasionally becomes flustered during interactions. Within Afterglow—formed to stay connected after a class separation—Ran holds an unofficial leadership role despite Himari Uehara being the nominal leader. Her closest dynamic is with guitarist Moca Aoba, whose teasing often flusters Ran; their longstanding friendship includes shared inside jokes and mutual understanding of each other's independent streaks.

Outside Afterglow, Ran befriended Arisa Ichigaya (Poppin'Party) over a shared interest in plant care. Additional traits include a fear of ghosts, a preference for dark chocolate sweets, an aversion to green peas, and the catchphrase "Same as always" used to affirm the band's consistent effort. She has held an unspecified part-time job.
