Description
Mitake Ran, Haneoka Girls' High School third-year student, serves as vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and primary lyricist for Afterglow. As the sole heir to a century-old flower arrangement school, she initially formed the band in rebellion against her father's expectations, causing familial tension that led her to skip classes and isolate herself. After proving her dedication, she reconciled with her father; he ceased succession pressure, supported her concerts (though his enthusiasm embarrassed her), and she later embraced both music and flower arrangement, developing genuine passion for each. She also befriended Arisa through shared plant care.

Ran sports short black hair with a distinctive red-dyed forelock streak—changed from her original all-black hair—and sharp dark pink eyes. Her tomboyish style favors monotone colors: leather jackets, ripped denim shorts, tights, and lace-up boots. Stage outfits incorporate red/black elements like graphic tees, studded accessories, and chokers. Winter sees her in detailed sweaters and skirts, summer in transparent sleeveless shirts and tank tops. Nearsighted, she initially avoided glasses, leading others to misinterpret her squinting as anger.

Her personality blends fierce will, competitiveness, and a deep aversion to losing with underlying social awkwardness and fear of loneliness. Though reserved—reading texts without replying—she profoundly values childhood friends and family. Verbally inexpressive, she stumbles over words or flusters around strangers or emotional confrontations. Quietly attentive to bandmates, she observes their well-being and shares subtle laughter or concern. Her protective reluctance to burden others historically caused friction, notably when withdrawing during conflicts with her father.

Approaching graduation, Ran wrestled with her musical passion versus fear for Afterglow's future. As flower duties reduced practice time, she contemplated disbanding to preserve their legacy at its "brightest," desiring to solidify their "legend" in high school before members diverged. This revelation upset her bandmates initially, but after a joint performance and reflection on their bond, she tearfully reunited with them, recommitting to Afterglow.

Key relationships define her. With Afterglow—especially longtime friend Moca Aoba—Ran shows comfort despite Moca’s teasing flustering her. They share matching mugs and winter shoes, and Ran wrote Moca a song. Her rivalry with Roselia’s Yukina Minato stems from philosophical contrasts: Ran prioritizes raw passion in performances, Yukina technical perfection. Though opposites—Ran rebels against family legacy, Yukina embraces hers—mutual respect occasionally softens into blushes or support, like Ran recording Yukina’s "cute" voice or voting for her.

Trivia includes her catchphrase "Same as always" (Itsumodoori), signifying full effort; ghost aversion; and a briefly mentioned part-time job. Her name, Mitake Ran, combines "beautiful bamboo" (美竹) and "orchid" (蘭), reflecting her floral heritage.
