Description
Born into a century-old flower arrangement school, Ran Mitake faced early expectations to inherit the tradition, leading her to form the band Afterglow as rebellion and straining her relationship with her father. After proving her musical dedication, they reconciled; he supported the band while she participated more willingly in flower arranging. This resolution brought new conflict as increased floral studies reduced band time, making Ran contemplate quitting Afterglow after graduation, fearing the band couldn’t maintain intensity as members pursued separate futures. Witnessing her bandmates' performance and realizing her deep connection to both music and friends made her tearfully recommit to continuing.

Ran combines strength and vulnerability. Strong-willed and hating to lose, she projects a rebellious, aloof image with a punk-inspired aesthetic: leather jackets, ripped denim, and signature black hair featuring a dyed red streak – a deliberate contrast to her earlier all-black look and symbol of individualism. Underneath, she deeply treasures childhood friends and family, struggles socially, fears loneliness, and finds verbal expression difficult. This social anxiety causes her to leave texts unanswered or reply minimally, appear quiet or detached around strangers, and sometimes fumble words. Yet she is observant and caring toward close friends, subtly checking on their well-being. Her powerful singing voice during performances starkly contrasts her normally quiet speaking voice.

In Afterglow, Ran is rhythm guitarist, lead vocalist, and primary lyricist. She formed the band to stay connected with her four childhood friends after being separated into different middle school classes. Her relationships reflect complexity: she shares a profound understanding and mutual independence with Moca Aoba, whose teasing often flusters her. She maintains a rivalry with Roselia's Yukina Minato, stemming from superficial similarities in reserve but differing fundamentally – Ran prioritizes passionate, raw energy while Yukina focuses on precision. Outside the band, Ran befriended Arisa Ichigaya over a shared interest in plants and flowers.

She prefers bitter sweets like dark chocolate, dislikes peas, is nearsighted (sometimes wearing glasses mistaken for glaring), and fears ghosts. She occasionally references an unspecified part-time job. Her catchphrase, "Same as always" (Itsumodoori), acknowledges the band's consistent effort.
