Description
Hagumi Kitazawa is an energetic third-year student at Hanasakigawa Girls' High School and serves as the bassist for the band Hello, Happy World!. She is the only daughter of a family that runs a butcher shop called Kitazawa Meats in the shopping district, where a popular item is their croquettes, which she loves. Her family life is complicated, as her parents often argue, leading to tense situations at home, and she has mentioned that her father can become very frightening when angry. She uses sports as an outlet for her energy and stress. Hagumi also has an older brother who taught her some guitar, which later helped her learn to play the bass more easily.
In terms of personality, Hagumi is known for her lively, passionate, and sunny disposition. She is cheerful, enthusiastic about sports, and often refers to herself in the third person. Despite her tomboyish and sporty nature, she has a strong affinity for cute things, like the Michelle bear costume, and experiences a complex over her own boyish appearance, sometimes believing she does not look as feminine as others. She is also surprisingly sensitive and cautious about the feelings of others, which relates to a deep dislike for competition because she feels that creating a winner inevitably makes someone else a loser who will be sad. This internal conflict once prevented her from fully enjoying her favorite sports and activities, a personal struggle she began to overcome after joining her band. She creates unique, affectionate nicknames for her friends and bandmates; for example, she calls Kokoro Tsurumaki "Kokoron," Kanon Matsubara "Kano-chan-senpai," and Misaki Okusawa "Mii-kun".
Her role in the story is primarily defined as the bassist of Hello, Happy World! She was recruited to the band by Kokoro, accepting the offer because a bass guitar "has two strings less than a guitar, which seemed fun". Despite this lighthearted initial reason, she practices diligently and is a dedicated member of the group. She was also the one who initially came up with the band’s signature slogan, "Happy! Lucky! Smile! Yeah!". Outside of her band, she has a significant childhood friendship with Kasumi Toyama, though neither realized it at first until Kasumi wore her hair differently. She is also a member of the "Shopping District Youth Association" alongside other store-owner daughters like Saaya Yamabuki, with whom she collaborates.
Physically, Hagumi has short, bright orange hair and copper eyes, standing at 152 cm tall with a birthday of July 30. Her notable abilities are heavily centered on her extraordinary athleticism. She is the captain and ace of the local softball team, the Sky Stars. She is an excellent runner with tremendous stamina, capable of running to a neighboring town and back to buy a book. She is also flexible and strong, able to perform backflips and even breakdance, sometimes while wearing a heavy mascot costume. She is skilled at the card game karuta and, despite her admission of being bad at studying, possesses a surprising talent for crafts, having built structures for a pet project in a single day.
