Description
Haruto Kirishima is the male protagonist of A Town Where You Live. He is a Japanese teenager who originally comes from a rural town in Hiroshima Prefecture, a place where he had spent his entire life before the events of the story. Born on October 30th, he has brown hair and dark blue eyes, with a normal build and above-average height.

In terms of personality, Haruto is initially characterized as being reserved and somewhat shy. This often causes him to become flustered or perturbed by the actions of more outgoing individuals, such as his sister or Yuzuki Eba. Despite this introverted nature, he possesses a very strong sense of responsibility and deep consideration for others. This sense of duty frequently sees him trying to take care of people around him, even when it leads to personal complications or misunderstandings. He can be stubborn, especially regarding his affections, but is fundamentally a kind-hearted person who tends to avoid conflict and prioritizes the happiness of others.

Haruto's primary motivation throughout the series is his pursuit of love and his desire to connect with others. At the start, he harbors a long-standing, unspoken crush on his middle school classmate, Nanami Kanzaki. However, his life is upended with the arrival of Yuzuki Eba, a girl from Tokyo who comes to live in his home. His initial irritation with this situation gradually transforms into a protective instinct, and he eventually falls in love with her, driving him to take significant actions such as confessing his feelings at a festival and later transferring to a high school in Tokyo to find her after a misunderstanding. His journey is defined by navigating these complex romantic feelings and the complications that arise from them.

As the protagonist, Haruto is the central figure through whom the story unfolds. His role is to drive the romantic drama forward, often finding himself at the center of a complicated love polygon. His decisions, whether to help a friend or pursue his true feelings, have a direct impact on the plot and the lives of those around him. The story follows his transition from a reserved country boy to someone who must make difficult, life-altering choices about his future and his relationships.

Haruto's key relationships form the core of the narrative. His most significant relationship is with Yuzuki Eba, which evolves from a cohabitation arrangement to a deep, albeit turbulent, romantic connection that faces numerous trials including long-distance separation, misunderstandings, and tragic circumstances involving a terminally ill rival, Kyousuke Kazama. His relationship with Nanami Kanzaki serves as an initial goal that gradually gives way to his true feelings for Yuzuki. He shares a strong friendship and a later romantic relationship with Asuka Mishima, who supports him during a difficult period in Tokyo. His childhood friend, Takashi Yura, is another important figure in his life. His family, including his older sister Aoi, also play a role in his daily life and development.

Throughout the story, Haruto undergoes significant development. He begins as a shy teenager who watches his crush from afar, but through his experiences and interactions, he becomes more outgoing and decisive. The character matures as he faces heartbreak, betrayal, and loss, learning to openly declare his feelings and fight for the person he loves, as seen when he issues a declaration of war to Kazama for Yuzuki's affection. His journey ultimately spans high school and into adulthood, concluding with him marrying Yuzuki, starting a family, and running a restaurant.

A notable ability of Haruto's is his exceptional skill in cooking. He is a member of his high school's cooking club, originally joining because he thought Nanami would also join. He works part-time at a restaurant to hone his skills and often prepares meals for his family, friends, and even for Kazama when he is hospitalized. This passion for cooking is not just a hobby but a significant part of his identity, ultimately shaping his professional career as he goes on to own and operate a restaurant.
