Description
Haruka Tenoh embodies the civilian identity of Sailor Uranus, an Outer Sailor Guardian safeguarding the Solar System from external dangers. Her name, translating to "distant sky king," mirrors the Japanese designation for Uranus (Tennousei, or "Sky King Star"), tracing back to the Greek sky deity Uranus.

Presenting androgynously, Haruka frequently dons masculine or unisex attire like suits and pants, sometimes leading to her being mistaken for male. She employs the masculine pronoun "boku" in Japanese. Sporting short pale blond hair and blue-gray eyes, she stands among the tallest Sailor Guardians. As a Mugen Academy student, she initially wears the male uniform. Her passions include high-speed pursuits such as race car driving and motorcycle operation—impulses born from resisting her preordained Guardian fate. She also plays piano to accompany her partner, Michiru Kaioh (Sailor Neptune), during violin recitals. Academically, she excels in physical education but grapples with modern Japanese.

Transforming via "Uranus Planet Power, Make Up!" (later upgraded to "Uranus Crystal Power, Make Up!"), Sailor Uranus wears a navy-blue-and-gold uniform over a white base, featuring a chest-armored leotard, navy sailor collar, and golden hoop earrings. Her Super form adds a star-choker, elongated gloves, and translucent shoulder pad, while her Eternal form introduces a light-blue-and-navy layered skirt, knee-high white boots with navy accents, and star accessories. Her attacks harness celestial forces: "World Shaking" draws energy from the sky, "Space Sword Blaster" wields her Talisman weapon, and "Space Turbulence" unleashes devastating power. She manipulates wind and air, receives precognitive omens through breezes, and possesses extraordinary speed and strength.

In *Sailor Moon Crystal* Season III, Haruka first encounters Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon) in an arcade, besting her at a racing game. Later, she and Michiru block the Inner Guardians from Mugen Academy, cautioning against interference. Ambushed by Death Busters agent Mimete, she transforms alongside Sailor Neptune and Sailor Pluto. Witnessing Sailor Moon’s ascension to Super form, Haruka discloses her Talisman’s role in awakening Sailor Saturn during the Silver Millennium’s fall. To prevent history’s repetition, she advocates killing Hotaru Tomoe—Sailor Saturn’s host—viewing it as a necessary sacrifice. This sparks conflict with the Inner Guardians, escalating when she confronts Mistress 9 (possessing Hotaru). Haruka, Neptune, and Pluto form a barrier with their Space Swords, immobilizing themselves as Mistress 9 drains the Inner Guardians. She later witnesses Sailor Saturn’s apocalyptic awakening, lamenting her failure to protect Hotaru.

Haruka shares a profound romantic bond with Michiru Kaioh (Sailor Neptune), cohabiting and eventually co-parenting Hotaru with Setsuna Meioh (Sailor Pluto) after Hotaru’s rebirth. Hotaru affectionately calls her "Haruka-papa." Haruka distrusts the Sailor Starlights in later arcs, holding them responsible for endangering Usagi. Her dynamic with Usagi balances mutual respect against tactical friction; Haruka prioritizes mission success over personal ties, manipulating events (like feigning betrayal to infiltrate Shadow Galactica) and withholding plans. Yet she fiercely shields Usagi, delegating her protection to allies during crises.

Haruka’s gender identity flows beyond binary confines. Officially designated female with feminine pronouns, Michiru describes her as "both a man and a woman," blending masculine and feminine traits. Haruka dismisses gender labels, asking, "A man or a woman... is it that important?" Her expressions fluctuate—wearing skirts in manga, donning Mugen’s female uniform later—challenging norms while official sources confirm she was assigned female at birth.

Across broader media, Haruka features in the non-canonical *Sailor Moon SuperS* film alongside Michiru and Setsuna. During the Dead Moon Circus arc, Hotaru upgrades her, Michiru, and Setsuna to Super forms. In the Shadow Galactica conflict, she and Michiru simulate betrayal to infiltrate Sailor Galaxia’s ranks, culminating in temporary deaths before revival and resuming their family life.
