Description
Victor Frankenstein, a Swiss scientist in 1860, undertakes an ambitious experiment to reanimate life with his assistant, Zuckel. They successfully animate a constructed being using electricity. A malfunction during the process inflicts immense pain upon the creature, triggering an immediate and violent rampage. Zuckel loses an eye in the chaos, and Victor flees, abandoning his assistant. The creature plummets from a cliff, leading Victor to presume its death.

Victor returns to his family—his wife Elizabeth and young daughter Emily—attempting normalcy. Yet he becomes consumed by paranoia and guilt, convinced the creature survived. This fear intensifies with violent animal attacks and human murders near his home, coupled with Zuckel's reappearance to blackmail him over the experiment. Victor suffers recurring nightmares depicting the creature as purely evil, deepening his torment.

Driven to erase his work and protect his family, Victor resolves to hunt down and kill the creature. He tracks it into the wilderness. A massive forest fire erupts during the pursuit, trapping Elizabeth. Victor witnesses the creature attempt to save her, but she perishes in the flames. Mistaking this effort for malice, Victor becomes certain the creature intentionally caused her death. His chase leads to a church where the creature sought refuge. Victor confronts it there, but the creature escapes.

Victor follows the creature to a mountain cliff. He witnesses his daughter Emily intervene, protecting the creature from police gunfire, and hears the creature speak Emily's name. Immediately after, the creature commits suicide by leaping from the cliff. Overwhelmed by the catastrophic consequences of his actions, including the deaths of his wife and others, Victor shoots himself in the chest, ending his life.

Victor maintains a complex relationship with his father, Alphonse Frankenstein, a blind man living separately in a cottage. Alphonse had previously warned Victor against pursuing his dangerous experiments, advice Victor ignored. Inspector Belbeau investigates the mysterious killings linked to the creature's actions; his inquiries increasingly focus on Victor, whose erratic and defensive behavior fuels suspicion.
