Description
Halu-Elu Dolu-Du is a character who appears in the anime film Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle. He is a member of the Bilusaludo, an extraterrestrial race with darker skin, a large and stocky build, and distinctive hair and facial features. At an age of 70, which is equivalent to a 40-year-old human, he holds the rank of Lieutenant-General and serves as the chieftain of the Bilusaludo faction aboard the interstellar migrant vessel Aratrum. The background of his species is defined by the catastrophic loss of their home planet in the Bilusaludia binary system to a black hole, an event that forged their culture into one that relies absolutely on technology and prioritizes logic and efficiency above all else.

True to this heritage, Dolu-Du's personality is marked by a relentless realism and a deeply pragmatic, inquisitive nature. He is consistently skeptical of unverified claims and emotional arguments, often being the first to question assumptions and demand evidence, as seen when he suggests that Godzilla could have multiplied during humanity's absence and later when he challenges predictions made by others. His primary motivation is the survival and strategic advantage of the Aratrum and its crew, driven by a utilitarian calculus that prioritizes collective efficiency over individual sentiment or cultural practices. He is quick to dismiss inefficient human endeavors, such as the production of a century-old wine, while still acknowledging their value as a lost luxury.

In the story, Dolu-Du serves as a key member of the Aratrum's Central Committee, where his logical and cautious perspective often puts him in direct conflict with those driven by emotion or heroism. Following a devastating attack by Godzilla Earth on the human landing forces, he strongly advocates for abandoning the planet and retreating to the moon's orbit, arguing that the statistical chance of finding survivors is too low to risk the ship's safety. His key relationships are primarily defined by these ideological clashes, most notably with the human officer Takeshi J. Hamamoto, whom he argues with over the viability of continued operations on Earth.

Dolu-Du's role becomes more antagonistic following the failure of the Mechagodzilla City operation. Convinced that Captain Haruo Sakaki is a traitor responsible for sabotaging the mission and causing Bilusaludo casualties, he orchestrates a rebellion. He and his fellow Bilusaludo seize control of the Aratrum's power station, cutting off power to the rest of the ship in a protest to force the Central Committee to condemn Haruo. This act demonstrates his development from a pragmatic advisor to an active agent of conflict, fully embodying his species' philosophy of sacrificing individuality for what he perceives as the collective good. During the subsequent assault on the Aratrum by the monster Ghidorah, Dolu-Du is present in the compromised power room, attempting to restore functionality. He acknowledges his failure to counter the chaos before the ship's volatile power core detonates, leading to his death and the effective extinction of the remaining Bilusaludo. His notable abilities are not supernatural; rather, they lie in his strategic, analytical mind, his leadership of the Bilusaludo faction, and his commanding presence on the Aratrum's bridge. He also directly states his utilitarian philosophy, arguing that in the fight against Godzilla, the inefficient physical body should be discarded to achieve victory.
