Description
Pitohui, whose real name is Elsa Kanzaki, sometimes written Elza Kanzaki, is a central character in Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II. In the real world she is a budding professional singer and songwriter admired by fans such as Karen Kohiruimaki and Miyu Shinohara, and in her everyday life she appears as a small, composed woman with long black hair. In Gun Gale Online she plays as a tall, slender woman with a geometric tattoo on her cheek, an appearance that matches her reputation as one of the game's most dangerous and unpredictable players. She is a self-described gun enthusiast who changes her firearm frequently and always uses live ammunition, and she often favors the KTR-09 assault rifle.
Her background is marked by a defining regret: she missed the original Sword Art Online incident and never experienced the life-or-death stakes of that game. That missed opportunity left her with an intense fascination with danger and death, and she became determined to recreate those stakes inside Gun Gale Online. This motivation shapes nearly everything she does. She comes across as cheerful, outgoing, and friendly, and she was the first friend LLENN made in the game, befriending her at a shopping mall, treating her to tea, recommending the P90, and forming a squadron with her. Beneath that charm, however, she is ruthless and brutal in combat, treating fights as entertainment and pushing herself and others toward extreme situations. She is a veteran player with deep knowledge of firearms and tactics, and her fighting style is aggressive, reckless, and hard to predict.
In the story she serves as both mentor and primary antagonist to LLENN. Their friendship includes a promise that LLENN would one day defeat her and that they would then meet in real life, and that promise drives much of their rivalry. During the second Squad Jam she escalates this rivalry into a life-or-death duel, declaring that she would kill herself and her partner M in the real world if they lost in the game. This plan reflects her desire to turn Gun Gale Online into a true death game. Her relationship with M is particularly important: M, whose real identity is Goushi Asogi, is her childhood friend and devoted subordinate, serving as a highly skilled sniper, strategist, and team adviser who follows her orders despite living in fear of her wrath. Through him, her private life and her in-game schemes are closely connected.
Her development is centered on her defeat at LLENN's hands. After losing that duel, she gives up her self-destructive plan and finds a new sense of purpose in her ongoing rivalry with LLENN, allowing her to continue as a chaotic and dangerous presence in later tournaments while also becoming a more stable ally. In Gun Gale Online II she carries this continuing role, remaining an elite player whose combination of charm, combat skill, and hunger for extreme stakes continues to influence the team events she takes part in.
